Male Sing and His Pet Owner: Chapter 124

Even after getting in the ambulance, racing all the way to the hospital, and sending Zhan Hang into emergency care, Zhao Kaile still felt like he was dreaming. Everything happening before his eyes seemed unreal. When Lu Jiayin and Bai Li arrived, he was still standing at the door in a daze, his clothes and hair a mess, bloodstains on his hands and the front of his shirt, looking thoroughly disheveled.

“Kaile?” Lu Jiayin went over to call him, reaching out to pat his shoulder. “Zhao Kaile? Are you okay?”

Zhao Kaile looked up at her and said, “Brother Hang is inside…”

Lu Jiayin said, “I know he’s inside. How are you? Are you hurt too?”

“Take him back to the hotel to rest first.” Bai Li said with a haggard face, turning to Lu Jiayin. “I’ll wait here for Zhan Hang’s mother to arrive.”

Lu Jiayin nodded. But Zhao Kaile stepped back a bit, clearly wanting to refuse her suggestion.

“Isn’t auntie abroad?” He forced himself to speak in a normal tone. “Can she make it in time?”

He didn’t even know what he was saying to people. His mind was completely jumbled.

Bai Li said, “She returned to the country yesterday. She’ll be here very soon. Don’t worry. Go wash your face and calm down first.”

Zhao Kaile made a sound of agreement, walked forward two steps aimlessly, then put one hand on the wall. His legs went soft and he sat down on the floor without any warning. Lu Jiayin was startled and hurried to help him up. “Kaile?!”

“I’m fine.” Zhao Kaile coughed several times, waved his hand at her, his ears still ringing again and again.

This wasn’t the first time he had experienced this feeling, but never had it been as painful as this. He didn’t dare have any extra thoughts. He could only cover his mouth and nose with his hand, breathing in continuously, as if this was the only way to barely maintain his calm.

“Kaile, Brother Hang will be fine. Don’t be like this.” Lu Jiayin couldn’t bear to watch, her eyes rimmed slightly red. She stepped forward and hugged him. “Don’t cry, don’t cry.”

Zhao Kaile’s voice trembled as he mechanically repeated, “I’m fine…”

He vaguely remembered that last time, when Zhan Hang accompanied him to wait outside the operating room for Zhao Kaiming, he had said that Zhao Kaiming wasn’t stupid, that he knew to protect his head when getting beaten.

But when it was your turn, why didn’t you know?

Didn’t you say the people in this industry are the best at reading the room and the best at currying favor with the powerful?

Why are you playing the good guy? Who will appreciate your kindness?

Zhao Kaile kept breathing heavily, one hand pressed against the wall, veins bulging on the back of his hand, struggling to stand but unable to get up.

Lu Jiayin knew that at this moment he couldn’t hear anything at all. She couldn’t help choking up. Bai Li stood silently to the side, the back of her hand rubbing the corner of her eye, her gaze still fixed on the tightly closed door. The producer, director, and others had all arrived. Mo Xin hadn’t come, presumably still not recovered from the shock, and her own injuries needed attention too.

A moment later, the doctor came out to find family members to sign. Feng Biqin finally arrived, panting as she signed and asked about the condition.

“Moderate concussion, a long wound from the back of the neck to the back of the head, needs to be stitched as soon as possible.” After saying this, the doctor no longer paid attention to the crowd asking questions all at once, and turned to go back inside.

Feng Biqin let out a slight breath of relief at this, one hand covering her heart, her heart still pounding wildly. When she received some vague and nonsensical related messages, she nearly fainted on the spot on the way here.

Several men were discussing in low voices nearby. “Probably cut by that new steel sheet, what a tragedy…” “Go back and count heads, see who set up that rain shelter.” “Sigh… how did this happen…” “Two leads injured at once…”

Feng Biqin completely didn’t want to hear them discussing these things. She frowned and shushed them to speak more quietly. Then she turned her eyes in annoyance and saw that Zhao Kaile had quieted down, still staring blankly at the operating room door without moving.

“Lele.” She went over to comfort him, saying softly, “It’ll be fine. Zhan Hang has a tough life. When he was little he was naughty, jumping from his own second floor to the next door’s second floor terrace. He accidentally fell, but in a couple of days he was bouncing around again.”

Zhao Kaile saw her and was a bit at a loss. “I’m fine, I just want to wait for him to come out… Auntie, I’m sorry, I didn’t take good care of him, I…”

Feng Biqin’s eyes went slightly red. She said gently, “What do you have to be sorry to me about.” She then took one of Zhao Kaile’s arms and said, “Look at what you’ve done to yourself.”

She wanted to comfort Zhao Kaile, but at this moment, no matter what, Zhao Kaile couldn’t relax.

Several people waited outside for three or four hours, squatting, sitting, standing, leaning. Finally the operating room light went out and the doctor pushed the door open.

Zhao Kaile didn’t know where he got the strength from, but he suddenly stood up, his eyes fixed tightly on the doctor, his hands still trembling involuntarily.

“No life threatening danger. The main cause of shock was excessive blood loss from the long wound, which has exceeded the body’s compensatory limit.” The doctor said, “Go to a regular ward. Observe the patient’s condition closely these next few days. See if there are any other after effects from the impact.”

Feng Biqin had endured for a long time. At these words she directly burst into tears, nearly kneeling down to him, bowing repeatedly in thanks. The doctor waved his hand for everyone not to waste time, and to go handle the follow up procedures.

After everything was settled, several people stood guard by Zhan Hang’s bed. Bai Li was outside the door discussing follow up matters with several people from the production side, and sent them away a bit later.

“You all go eat first.” Feng Biqin said to them. “I’ll watch over him.”

Lu Jiayin hurriedly said, “I’ll go out to buy food, then bring it back for everyone together.”

Bai Li had already regained her calm and said, “Just bring it for them. I still need to go back to handle some things. Kaile, report Zhan Hang’s condition to me at any time these next few days. Don’t be affected by emotions for too long. Pull yourself together.”

Zhao Kaile had sobered up a bit, nodded at her, and replied in a slightly hoarse voice, “I understand.”

Bai Li patted his shoulder, greeted the others, and left. Lu Jiayin followed her out the door.

The hospital room fell into a brief silence.

Zhan Hang’s eyes were tightly closed, his face pale, several loops of bandages wrapped around his neck and head, looking haggard. Feng Biqin sat beside him in silence for a long time, still feeling shaken. She didn’t dare imagine what kind of reaction she would have if something really happened to Zhan Hang.

Zhao Kaile’s eyelids drooped slightly nearby. His taut nerves finally relaxed, and exhaustion invaded his consciousness like a tide, making him extremely drowsy.

Feng Biqin noticed something, looked up at him, and said warmly, “Lele, go rest. I’m watching Zhan Hang. The doctor said once he wakes up, he’ll be fine.”

Zhao Kaile said vaguely, “I’ll just lie down for a bit.”

Feng Biqin looked at him helplessly and didn’t say more.

When Lu Jiayin bought dinner and came back, Zhao Kaile was already lying down fast asleep. Feng Biqin signaled her to move quietly.

As night fell, Lu Jiayin saw that Zhao Kaile showed no signs of waking up, so she sent a long string of messages to his phone. After greeting Feng Biqin, she picked up her bag and left the room.

Feng Biqin paced around the room alone a couple of times, feeling her chest was too stuffy, and decided to go out for some fresh air. But the moment her door closed, the Zhan Hang lying on the bed flexed a finger, seeming to show signs of waking.

Zhao Kaile didn’t sleep very soundly this time. His brows were tightly knit together. He dreamed that Zhan Hang was filming a cliff jumping scene for a drama. The person was already standing at the edge of the cliff, half a foot already stepped out. The moment he fell backward, Zhao Kaile discovered that he wasn’t carrying any safety harness equipment, and immediately screamed in terror.

Zhan Hang struggled to lift his eyelids. The scene before his eyes finally focused. His fingers lifted slightly and touched Zhao Kaile’s forehead.

Zhao Kaile woke up with a start, cold sweat all over his forehead, his heart pounding wildly. He looked at the person on the bed with eyes open, clearly not having reacted yet.

Zhan Hang struggled to move his lips, but really couldn’t speak. He only blinked slightly at Zhao Kaile.

“……” Zhao Kaile’s heart surged with joy. He was so excited he couldn’t speak, trembling for a long time before remembering to press the call button at the bedside. Then he nervously leaned beside Zhan Hang, thinking for a long time about what to say, but the only thing that came out was, “Brother Hang?”

Zhan Hang blinked again.

Zhao Kaile’s nose went sour. He really couldn’t control his tears, and lay beside him crying loudly. “That’s great… I… you scared me to death, you really scared me to death just now!!”

Zhan Hang finally gathered a bit of speaking strength and said weakly, “Don’t cry… the way you’re wailing… it sounds like I really died…”

Zhao Kaile’s tears wouldn’t stop gushing out. He thought with complete breakdown, I wanted to go with you! If something happened to you, what would I do!

Zhan Hang moved his fingers, wanting to wipe his tears for him, but really was powerless. He could only look at him helplessly, gathering strength for a while before speaking, saying slowly, “If I really died… all my inheritance goes to you…”

“……” Zhao Kaile cried even louder. “Are you crazy!!!”

Zhan Hang knew he had made the wrong joke, so he desperately tried to persuade him, gesturing that this was a hospital and not to be too loud. Only then did Zhao Kaile barely calm down, both angry and unable to be fierce with him, huffing in distress on the side.

The doctor came in to examine Zhan Hang, asking if there was anywhere else uncomfortable.

Zhan Hang said, “Headache… ringing in my ears.”

The doctor: “Headache is normal. Which ear?”

“The right one.” Zhan Hang said.
