The Second Young Master’s Obedient Husband : Chapter 52
The next morning, perhaps because they had been too rowdy the night before, Su Qingyu woke up even earlier than Liang Yu.
When he opened his eyes, the room was still dim. Liang Yu was sleeping soundly beside him, his arm draped across Su Qingyu’s waist, holding him tight. His body was dry and clean, though a bit sore. Even though they had been up late last night, they had still wiped themselves down with warm water before sleeping.
Su Qingyu leaned against Liang Yu’s chest to clear his head. After waiting a while and seeing that Liang Yu still hadn’t woken, he gently shifted his body, trying to sit up. His legs were already sore, and with the arm around his waist gripping so tightly, he flailed about for a good while without managing to sit up, instead falling back into Liang Yu’s embrace.
Since he couldn’t get up, Su Qingyu gave up. Just as he settled down to lie still, he noticed that the arm holding him seemed to tighten slightly.
Su Qingyu blinked in confusion and looked up. Liang Yu’s eyes were indeed still closed, but he had pulled him closer into his embrace again.
Su Qingyu’s face reddened, and he obediently nestled in Liang Yu’s arms without moving.
After lying there a while longer, he truly couldn’t stay in bed anymore and shifted his body slightly. This time Liang Yu opened his eyes, lowered his head to kiss the person in his arms, and his eyes held not the slightest trace of sleepiness, only a very mischievous smile.
Su Qingyu felt flustered being watched like that and said softly, “We should get up… We need to serve tea to Father and Mother.”
Liang Yu pinched the person in his arms again, kneading him until he whimpered. Su Qingyu quickly sat up, grabbed a piece of clothing to drape over himself, got out of bed, and found his own clothes from the trunk. Only after he was properly dressed did he breathe a sigh of relief. When he turned around, he saw Liang Yu still leaning against the headboard, not knowing how long he had been watching him, his eyes full of amused interest.
Su Qingyu’s body stiffened for a moment, then turned completely red from head to toe. While he was dressing himself, he had been watched by him the whole time…
Su Qingyu covered his face in something close to despair, silently turned around, and buried his face into the pile of clothes to compose himself.
After his face was no longer so red, Su Qingyu straightened up. When he turned his head, he saw Liang Yu with his hand half-covering his eyes, laughing uncontrollably.
Su Qingyu puffed out his cheeks, walked over stiffly, and pushed him, his tone full of embarrassment and irritation. “Hurry up and get up.”
Liang Yu pulled him into his arms and kissed him thoroughly before finally letting him go and sitting up to dress.
After washing up and getting ready, the two of them left their courtyard and went to the front hall.
There were already people in the front hall. Father Liang sat at the head of the table drinking tea, while Mother Liang was busy arranging tea and snacks nearby. Liang Feng and Zhang Yun were setting out dishes and chopsticks. Their little nephew, Liang Tingyu, was a proper young lad, raised well by his elder brother and sister-in-law, and was also helping by carrying bowls and passing chopsticks. The group chatted and laughed from time to time, lively and warm.
As soon as the two of them entered, the eyes of everyone in the room turned toward them.
Su Qingyu’s heart was beating wildly, and his palms were sweating. Liang Yu gently squeezed his hand and whispered in his ear, “Father and Mother are both very kind. Don’t be afraid.”
Su Qingyu pressed his lips together, walked over, and dropped straight to his knees in front of Father Liang.
Father Liang was startled by his straightforward action. Liang Yu quickly grabbed a cup of tea and pressed it into Su Qingyu’s hands. Only then did Su Qingyu react, and with red ears, he offered the tea to Father Liang, saying timidly, “Father, please drink tea.”
Father Liang smiled as he took the tea, drank a sip, and nodded. He pulled a red envelope from his chest and handed it to Su Qingyu. Su Qingyu accepted it with both hands and kowtowed.
Having done it once, Su Qingyu was much calmer the second time. He took the tea and knelt before Mother Liang, saying obediently, “Mother, please drink tea.”
Mother Liang smiled as she took the tea, drank a sip, and also handed over a red envelope. “Good child. From now on, we are one family.”
Su Qingyu nodded and unconsciously broke into a sweet smile.
The elder brother and sister-in-law also gave gifts: a set of the four treasures of the study and a bolt of fine cotton cloth. Su Qingyu accepted them, saying, “Thank you, Elder Brother and Sister-in-law.”
Liang Feng and Zhang Yun also smiled in response.
After serving tea, Mother Liang pulled him to sit beside her, chatting away. She asked if his family was doing well, how his mother’s health was, and if there was anything he needed. Su Qingyu answered each question one by one, feeling warm inside.
The whole family ate breakfast together in a lively manner. Liang Yu didn’t interrupt Su Qingyu, watching as he chatted warmly with Mother Liang while silently putting food on Su Qingyu’s plate, reminding him to eat his breakfast.
Zhang Yun watched their interaction with a teasing smile, nudging Liang Feng to look as well. Liang Feng lowered his eyes to look at his wife with a helpless smile, served Zhang Yun a bowl of sweet soup, and drew her attention back to himself. The little lad, Yu, sat nearby eating with his head down, completely used to such scenes.
Father Liang sat in the seat of honor, watching his family in harmony with a cheerful smile. He pushed the bean buns that Mother Liang liked toward her side and ate from his own bowl with chopsticks in hand.
Su Qingyu bit into the sweet bun that Liang Yu handed him and suddenly felt that this might be what a home was like.
To welcome the new husband, Mother Liang and Zhang Yun were busy in the kitchen after breakfast. Su Qingyu wanted to help, but as soon as he stepped through the door, he was chased out. They said how could they let the new husband work on his first day? Mother Liang even stuffed a basket of fried meat into his hands to take outside and eat.
Liang Yu was in the yard killing a chicken and chopping meat. Father Liang and Liang Feng brought hot water over to help pluck the chicken feathers. Even though it was a bloody mess, Liang Yu wouldn’t let Su Qingyu come near. In the end, Su Qingyu could only hold the basket and squat nearby with Tingyu, watching them work while sharing the fried meat. Gradually he became less reserved, chatting with Tingyu from time to time, watching and laughing along. It was wonderfully lively.
The meal was abundant. With so many people in the family and the men having hearty appetites, even though they made plenty of dishes, nothing was left in the end. In the afternoon, Mother Liang pulled Su Qingyu and Zhang Yun together to do needlework. They would sew a few stitches, then gossip and laugh, and before they knew it, the whole afternoon had passed.
…
The house had been bustling all day. That evening, after washing up, Liang Yu entered the inner room. He got into bed, pulled over Su Qingyu, who was sitting with his hair unbound doing embroidery, and kissed him, saying, “It’s so late now. Be careful not to strain your eyes.”
Su Qingyu obediently put away his needlework, got out of bed, and put it away properly. Liang Yu pulled the covers over them, lifted one side, and waved Su Qingyu over. Su Qingyu climbed into bed and obediently curled up in Liang Yu’s embrace, then raised his head and kissed him on the face.
Liang Yu chuckled softly, lowered his head, and bit the fair, tender cheek of the little man in his arms, provoking an angry glare before he happily let go. He held him around the waist, rubbed his face against his to coax him, and then suddenly spoke, “Mother has a straightforward nature. She says whatever is on her mind. Don’t be afraid. She likes you. Father doesn’t talk much, but he is very fair-minded. Elder Brother works as a Zan Dian at the county yamen. He does record-keeping and accounting and isn’t home often. Elder Sister-in-law has a bright and cheerful nature. The lad Yu, whose full name is Liang Tingyu, is the first child of Elder Brother and Sister-in-law. He is five years old this year, a bit mischievous by nature but very obedient. They are all easy to get along with. If there’s anything you don’t understand in the future, just ask them.”
Su Qingyu nodded, and his heart slowly settled.
Heavy snow weighed down the branches, and the branches trembled uncontrollably until they passed their breaking point and finally snapped free, shaking off their coat of snow. The moonlit night returned to silence. It was another busy night.
