The Second Young Master’s Obedient Husband : Extra Part 2

When Zhang Yun was pregnant for the first time, Liang Feng was both happy and worried. Whatever his wife wanted, he wished he could pluck the stars from the sky and give them to her. But he also worried about her health, and ran to the town medical hall every few days.

Liang Feng purposely chose times when the medical hall was not busy to ask the old doctor, “My wife has bad morning sickness and cannot eat. What should I do?”

The old doctor calmly prescribed a formula to stimulate appetite and calm the fetus. “It is normal. Do not miss a single dose of the calming medicine. It will get better slowly.”

Liang Feng asked again, “Can she take supplements?”

The old doctor patiently said, “You must be careful with what she eats. Do not supplement randomly. Do not lie around all day. Walk around more…”

Liang Feng nodded, carefully writing down the points to remember. He took the medicine, thanked the doctor, and left.

The old doctor watched his figure, stroking his beard and sighing. “A man who cares this much about his wife’s pregnancy is rare.”

Who would have thought that later, whenever Liang Feng had free time he would go to the medical hall to find the old doctor. He annoyed the old doctor terribly, but Liang Feng always paid generously, and he was a scholar gentleman. The old doctor could not scold him, so he could only patiently answer overly trivial and repetitive questions.

“Doctor, you said last time that massaging the lower back helps relieve a pregnant woman’s soreness. Could you demonstrate the technique one more time?”

“Like this, from bottom to top, rub gently. Do not use too much force.”

Liang Feng drew a simple diagram on paper, marking the direction and pressure, and nodded in satisfaction.

After Liang Feng finished writing, he thought of something and suddenly asked, “Doctor, when it is time to give birth… will it be dangerous?”

The old doctor looked up at him and sighed. “Your wife has a good foundation of health, and the baby’s position is correct. As long as she takes good care of herself and gives birth properly when the time comes, nothing will happen. If you have time, you can learn how to help with a smooth delivery.”

“Alright, thank you for your trouble.”

Every time Liang Feng returned from the medical hall, he would solemnly repeat the old doctor’s words to Zhang Yun. How many steps to walk each day, eating small meals frequently, eating more of this and less of that, which foot pressure points were good for pregnant women. He learned very seriously, but Zhang Yun listened without paying much attention. Looking at his nagging appearance, she listened and listened and then laughed. When he finished nagging, she spoke. “Do not keep going to the medical hall. Won’t the doctor find it annoying?”

“He does not find it annoying.”

“If you keep this up, the doctor will report you for disturbing the peace.”

“Let him report me. As long as you and the child are safe and sound.”

“I know, we will be safe and sound.”

The two of them talked for a while, then Liang Feng began his routine of massaging her legs and waist. For each pressure point he would start explaining what use it had, and if she felt unwell and he was not by her side, she could press it herself…

Half a month before the estimated due date, Liang Feng requested leave from work. The midwife was someone Liang Feng had gone to invite a month in advance. She was the most famous midwife for dozens of miles around, and had never made a mistake. Liang Feng visited her in person, bringing generous gifts. The original agreement was fifteen taels of silver including care until the full month, but Liang Feng added another five taels, only asking that she stay at the Liang house for the few days near the due date and not go anywhere else.

Zhang Yun was much more composed than Liang Feng. Near the due date, she ate when she should eat and slept when she should sleep. Every afternoon she walked a few laps in the courtyard, and occasionally learned from Su’s mother how to make tiger head shoes for little children.

The day labor started was good weather. Zhang Yun got up early and felt something was off, but she did not say anything. She sat in the room and slowly drank a bowl of porridge. When the contractions came, she said to Liang Feng, “Husband, it seems like it is time.”

Liang Feng panicked right away. His foot caught and he nearly tripped over the door frame. He steadied himself and ran outside to invite the midwife from the next room.

When the news spread, Liang’s mother also came right away. She called several experienced wives and husbands and the midwife to enter the birthing room together. Liang Feng was blocked outside the birthing room, panicking terribly. Liang’s father pulled him away to help boil hot water.

The delivery went fairly smoothly. Not even the old mountain ginseng that Liang Yu had specially gone into the mountains to find before leaving was needed. After a few hours, she gave birth to a boy, the Liang family’s first grandson. The young couple both adored him terribly, and named him Liang Tingyu.

Later, when Su Qingyu married into the family, Zhang Yun also gained a close sister in law. One time, Su Qingyu and Zhang Yun were together in the kitchen making dinner. The two of them picked vegetables as they chatted, and Su Qingyu said, “Sister in law, you and older brother have such a good relationship.”

Zhang Yun smiled and said, “We have known each other since we were little. I am used to it. He has his things to do, and I have my things to do. He writes and reads case files in the county town, and I grow vegetables and feed chickens at home. Neither of us gets in the other’s way. We sleep holding each other at night, and it does not affect our feelings or anything. It is just that he works hard, getting up early and coming home late every day. But he refuses to live in the county town. No matter what I say, he will not listen.”

When she said the last sentence, Zhang Yun’s tone was full of helplessness, but her eyes overflowed with sweetness and smiles.

Later, when Liang Yu and Su Qingyu went away on merchant trips, Zhang Yun not long after felt something was off with her body. She went to town and the old doctor took her pulse. Sure enough, she was pregnant again. This time, having experience, Liang Feng was not as panicked as with the first child. Every day he brewed calming medicine for her, and every night he massaged her legs and waist which easily cramped… When autumn came, Zhang Yun smoothly gave birth to a little girl. Liang Feng flipped through a book of names and called her Liang Tingxue.

After Su Qingyu returned and heard that Zhang Yun had given birth to another little girl, that afternoon he picked out a few suitable things from what he had brought back, along with gifts he had specially bought for them, put them in a small basket, and pulled Liang Yu along to go see them in the main house.

The charcoal fire in the room burned brightly. Zhang Yun sat on the heated bed wearing a light lotus root colored cotton jacket, holding a needle and thread sewing small clothes for the child. Liang Feng had previously not let her strain herself with this, saying everything was already prepared. But Zhang Yun found sitting the month boring, so Liang Feng let her do it. Doing it for fun was fine, but if she strained herself because of it, that would not do. Liang Feng would hold her and cry. Thinking of this, Zhang Yun could not help but curve her eyes in a smile.

Hearing the knock at the door, Zhang Yun came back to herself and said, “Come in.” Su Qingyu pushed the door open and entered. Zhang Yun smiled and patted the edge of the heated bed, gesturing for him to sit.

Su Qingyu put the basket on the heated bed table and took things out one by one. “This is for you, this is for older brother, this is for Tingyu…”

Zhang Yun pulled over his hand and patted it. “Long time no see. Was there anything fun on the road?”

Su Qingyu sat down on the edge of the heated bed following her pull, and began telling stories of interesting things on the road. “You do not know, Liang Yu he…”

Inside the room, the two of them talked and laughed. Liang Yu stood at the door and did not go in. He looked into the room and saw that they both had smiles on their faces, and his sister in law’s complexion was also good, so he felt relieved. He then turned his head to look at his older brother standing in the corridor. Liang Feng had his hands tucked into his sleeves, looking at the top of the persimmon tree in the courtyard. His handsome appearance had the air of a refined scholar.

Liang Yu walked over and stood beside him. “Congratulations, older brother.”

“Yes.”

After a while, Liang Yu slowly came out with, “Older brother is really something.”

Liang Feng turned to look at him. For a moment he did not know what to say. Although the brothers had a good relationship, this kind of slightly teasing conversation was not common. This kid’s courage had grown. Now he dared to tease him. Once Liang Feng figured it out, he glared at Liang Yu. Seeing Liang Yu’s careless and shameless look, it made him angry.

Liang Feng took a deep breath and raised his hand to slap Liang Yu on the shoulder. “You rotten thing, get lost.”

Hearing Liang Feng’s cursing, Liang Yu only then felt comfortable, smiling in that cheeky way. Seeing this, Liang Feng wanted to hit him again. Liang Yu dodged while laughing until he ran out of the courtyard, and Liang Feng did not chase him out.

Liang Yu thought that Su Qingyu’s side would take quite a while to finish, so he planned to go to the kitchen to help start cooking dinner. Liang’s mother was just coming out of the kitchen carrying a basin of water. Seeing Liang Yu’s face full of smiles, she narrowed her eyes and got straight to the point. “You went to provoke your older brother again?”

Liang Yu immediately wiped the smile from his face and argued, “No.”

Liang’s mother gave a light hum and twisted his ear. “Go help in the kitchen.”

Liang Yu covered his swollen ear and entered the kitchen, unable to smile anymore.

Winds change and clouds bring rain and snow, yet the wind chases the clouds and will not part from them.

In the rising of the sun and the setting of the moon, wind and cloud have never separated. So Liang Feng and Zhang Yun will also accompany each other to old age, growing white haired together.
