Sword Slaying the Jianghu : Chapter 25: The Battle of the Thatched Hall (5)

Just then, Liu Meng’s broadsword cleaved down ferociously, looking just like a lion lunging at its prey. However, the moment the blade touched this fiery red sun, it was as if it had struck a piece of rubber. The broadsword bounced straight back. Because Liu Meng had used considerable strength, this rebounding force was truly astonishing. His entire body tilted backward, and he was dragged back several paces by his own broadsword, his heels leaving two long gashes in the sandy ground.

Su Mohan smiled faintly. Without stopping the movements of his hands for a second, he took two steps forward. Suddenly, the blade of his sword quivered, and a streak of fiery red sword energy shot right out from the tip of the sword.

Steadying his stance, Liu Meng sensed a powerful blast of energy pressing down on him. He focused his eyes and saw that it was a streak of sword energy flying at him after leaving the blade. However, it was already too late to dodge. He had no choice but to hurriedly bring his sword across his chest, using the thick blade to block.

With a loud bang, Liu Meng was sent flying backward dozens of paces before he barely managed to steady himself and stop. A large amount of blood poured from the corner of his mouth, and his eyes were full of disbelief. He had no way of knowing that Su Mohan’s recent move was the first form of the Nine Sun Series, “The Scorching Sun Is Like Fire.”

This powerful sword energy was formed by inner energy that constantly circulated within the sword body. Su Mohan’s continuous swinging of the blade earlier was actually a way to control the movement of that inner energy while slowly infusing more into it, making this blast of energy stronger and stronger without letting it leave the blade. It was only unleashed when the sword energy became too powerful for the blade to contain, so its power was naturally staggering.

This move not only consumed a massive amount of inner energy but also could not be interrupted midway. Therefore, Su Mohan would generally not use “The Scorching Sun Is Like Fire” easily.

As for why Su Mohan used it this time, it was obvious he could see that Liu Meng was by no means an ordinary fighter. If he got dragged into a slow, prolonged struggle, he could hardly guarantee that his strength would last until the very end.

Su Mohan was not the kind of cold blooded assassin who wiped out everyone completely. Seeing that his opponent was already defeated, he planned to catch his breath and look over the situation inside the thatched hall. Unexpectedly, right as his eyes shifted away from Liu Meng, twelve silver, flashing beams of light flew straight toward his face.

Su Mohan reacted instantly. Someone was playing the trick of a sneak attack again, and this time, they were even using a despicable method like hidden weapons. He immediately raised the sword in his hand, using the blade to strike those dozen or so hidden weapons in mid air. Between the flashing movements of his sword, a few hidden weapons dropped into the yellow sand, while a few others lunged before Su Mohan like hornets. Remaining expressionless, Su Mohan took a slight step back. Secretly channeling inner energy into his left hand, he hurriedly unleashed a blast of palm wind, and those few hidden weapons were blasted away by the powerful gust.

In truth, it was not that Su Mohan’s inner energy was incredibly amazing; it was mainly because the person using the hidden weapons was no expert. His hidden weapons looked dense and imposing, but they were actually incredibly weak and lacked any real force. If it were a true expert making a sneak attack, they would use a single, tiny hidden weapon. Who would be foolish enough to throw out so many items and expose their position?

Just then, another dozen or so cold lights flew toward Su Mohan. It seemed the opponent was rather unwilling to give up after their first attack failed!

“Shameless coward, are you addicted to throwing hidden weapons? Then let me give you a taste of your own medicine!”

After Su Mohan finished speaking, he tossed his sword upward, then caught the hilt with his left hand, suddenly unleashing a left handed sword style. A cold light flashed in the air, and several hidden weapons were struck by the blade and flew straight back. The man who threw the hidden weapons still had his right hand groping around inside his robe for more items when he saw his own weapons flying back. He tried to dodge in a hurry, but it was already too late. His long face was instantly pierced until it looked like a strainer. The man screamed in agony on the ground, and the hidden weapons inside his robe scattered all over the floor.

A few more hidden weapons flew toward Su Mohan’s side, but he darted away and easily dodged them. In fact, the reason Su Mohan used his left hand to strike those hidden weapons back was entirely because using an upward sweep with the left hand was more natural than a horizontal sweep with the right hand. The force was greater, so the speed was naturally faster too. Furthermore, the opening on the weapon thrower was at his right hand, which was busy groping for weapons, and the opponent’s right side happened to be his own left side.

Su Mohan no longer cared about Liu Meng and the sneak attacker, but out of the corner of his eye, he noticed a shadow darting toward their direction, so he looked over instinctively. Then, he saw a silver, flashing sword pierce into their throats. By the time the sword was sheathed, they had already drawn their last breaths. The person who killed them was none other than Ning Bufan, who had followed him inside.

Su Mohan had long known that Ning Bufan used despicable methods, but he never expected him to be low enough to do this. However, the man was his superior after all, so it was not his place to criticize him. He could only pretend he had not seen it.

Yet Ning Bufan seemed terrified that Su Mohan had missed his actions, and walked straight back to stand in front of him.

“When traveling through the martial arts world, you must never show mercy to your enemies. Otherwise, a reversal of the situation is highly likely to happen in the end.”

Su Mohan did not listen to Ning Bufan’s words at all. He was simply observing the situation inside the thatched hall in detail.

The thatched hall could hold about several hundred people. In the center of the hall stood a hundred wooden pillars, and a person was currently standing on top of each pillar. These people did not attack one another; they merely stood on the pillars to defend. If anyone entered the area around their pillars, they would launch a joint counterattack against the people below.

It seemed they already understood the purpose of the pillars placed inside the thatched hall. As long as there was one person standing on each pillar and no one else remained below, they could join the Qin Estate without having to wait for the seawater to flood the place or for a fire to break out. Therefore, they had formed an invisible alliance. Once they stood on a pillar, it was like obtaining a protective talisman from a powerful coalition.

In truth, the number of people below the pillars was twice as large as the number above, but the people below were completely disorganized, having absolutely no idea that their biggest problem lay on top of the pillars.

Su Mohan stared for a moment, and he already understood Qin Guanghai’s intention in setting up the pillars.

“Heavenly General Ning, shall we team up and go have some fun on those pillars too?”

“I have exactly the same idea. It is just that there are so many pillars, and I still do not know which one is best to go for. Why don’t you help me pick one?”

Su Mohan carefully scanned the people on the pillars. Three sides were still locked in fierce, soaking combat, while only one side seemed to have no one fighting for a spot. Thus, Su Mohan said, “There is no one over there. Why don’t we go over there and try our luck?”

Ning Bufan looked at the few people over there, and a sinister, cunning light flashed in his eyes. In fact, he had been thinking the exact same thing, but he intentionally kept quiet just to let Su Mohan say it first, making it easier to set a trap for him.

“Alright, I will handle the third one on the right. That one looks relatively powerful. How about you handle the fourth one? That one looks frail and weak, so it should be very easy to deal with. Just consider this as a Heavenly General looking out for you.”

Su Mohan counted silently in his mind. The third one did indeed look broad shouldered and thickset, but the weapon in his hand was very short, looking like some kind of short dagger. Su Mohan understood instantly; any talk of being powerful was entirely just this Ning Bufan being deceitful and smooth tongued.

Su Mohan then looked at the fourth person. That person did indeed look like a frail and weak scholar, but the sword he held in his hand was quite unusual. The sword was still three feet long, but the center of the blade was hollow.
