The Villainous Male Supporting Character Courts Death Every Day : Chapter 46

At the dinner table, sure enough, vegetable puree and oatmeal porridge appeared. But fortunately, there was also stewed venison and braised rabbit. Milo’s brows opened in a smile, overjoyed.

By now he was dressed in royal custom-made crescent moon silk satin, with golden silk thread piping, the collar slightly open, soft and fitting to his skin. In the candlelight, the sheen flickered, the ripples rising and falling with his breath.

His lower body wore flexible white leather riding breeches, the waist cinched tight, the lines long and sharp, several fine silver buttons in a row. The whole person looked spirited and noble.

The youth’s moods came quickly and went quickly. The earlier displeasure and weariness had all vanished like smoke. Now he was taking a bite of rabbit, a bite of venison, laughter unceasing, toasting back and forth with Lucian.

Between every gesture and movement, the thin silk satin flowed along his body lines, sketching beautiful curves. The hem at his waist rose and fell slightly, his skin reflecting the firelight, like fire hidden beneath snow, bright enough to make one’s heart flutter.

Kyle stood attending with lowered head, his fingers secretly tightening, the watch case nearly cracking from his grip.

The prince also wore a crescent moon standing collar satin shirt, his shoulder lines tall and straight, with finely embroidered platinum iris patterns coiling around. The pattern was like the water shadows in the depths of an icy lake, normally invisible, only faintly appearing when firelight swept past.

The two people’s fabrics were nearly the same style, even the gold edges flashing similar light. Only one was soft and close-fitting, the other stiff and proper. The two sat shoulder to shoulder, looking at each other and laughing, like light and the reflection of the sun, beautiful as a painting.

The outer hall was even more lively. The prince’s guards and attendants sat around several tables eating and laughing, paired with the wine and meat the prince had graciously bestowed and hunting ground stories. Rough bowls and rough plates, knives and forks clashing, laughter rising and falling one after another, the air of the wooden cabin was warmed to a toasty heat.

The atmosphere spread, even the inner hall was dyed with that warmth, all of it relaxed and easy.

Several entertaining prince attendants got up to play and fool around, telling jokes, putting on performances, playing games, making Milo laugh out loud, the prince also looking leisurely and content.

After several rounds of wine, the atmosphere grew warm and lively. The two moonlight-like figures sat closer and closer, white satin reflecting each other, laughter connecting, nearly pressed together.

Dark eyes were heavy, dim light flashing faintly. In the interweaving light and shadow of laughter, the black shadow grew ever colder. Finally he stepped forward, using the opportunity of pouring wine to take a soft blanket and drape it over the young master’s shoulders, whispering: “Young master, there is wind at night.”

Milo paid no attention, still immersed in the laughter and commotion, only subconsciously pulling the blanket tighter. All the platinum satin colors were covered, and the person was also separated by distance. He still kept talking to the prince, his brows flying and his expression dancing, talking on and on.

The prince listened attentively, his gaze fixed on the golden eyes, his smile held in the bottom of his eyes, seeming unaware, yet his fingertips slightly tightened at the edge of his wine cup.

“It should be Steward Kyle’s turn to come down!” A prince attendant named William clapped his hands and laughed loudly. He had always been quick and clever, immediately making his move, intimately taking Kyle’s arm and pulling him toward the center of the games, laughing loudly: “I want to press charges, press charges against the famous heartthrob of our royal city! Steward Kyle!”

“Yes yes! Countless ladies have secretly given their hearts, how many beauties have been driven to despair! This is the crime of being dashing and handsome!”

“Last time my cousin came to the city, she saw Steward Kyle’s heroic bearing at the banquet and had her heart stolen, unwilling to go home!”

“Definitely the crime of heart stealing! Press charges! Press charges!”

The surrounding crowd of attendants made a ruckus and commotion. Milo, seeing this, laughed without conscience, pounding the table and laughing so hard he nearly lost his breath, collapsed on the table unable to straighten up.

Lucian naturally placed his hand on Milo’s back, his gaze gentle. He raised his eyes but met pitch black pupils. The prince’s smiling eyes curved, his arm stretching out to pull the person tight into his embrace, lightly patting his back to help Milo catch his breath.

“Confess! Kyle! You can’t argue your way out of this one!” Milo leaned on the prince’s shoulder cheering for Kyle, shouting loudly, his smile bright and vivid, flowing with light and color, his brows and eyes lively, carrying the gorgeousness of morning sunlight.

Kyle paused for an instant, unable to look away.

That was the young master’s long-missed excitement and high spirits, joyful and animated. Even before the house arrest, there had rarely been such vivid liveliness. It was like a ray of light in memory, those sun-like eyes blooming bright for him, etched into his pitch black shadow.

Kyle’s lips pressed lightly, his gaze softening, the shadow at his feet melting into the firelight, its lines blurring and mixing with the crowd.

“Order, order.” The attendant playing judge held a beast bone pretending to be a gavel, followed by an exaggerated and deliberate cadence: “This court declares, the trial is now in session.” The crowd laughed without end.

This was the party game popular in the royal city, “Mock Court.” They played judge and prosecutor, pressing charges against the defendant with various half-true, absurd and comical reasons. After the defendant argued back, the judge would deliver a verdict. Basically it was a court version of truth or dare combined with laughter and gossip.

Milo watched with schadenfreude as Kyle was pushed onto the defendant’s seat, and in the tidal wave of laughter, was immediately charged with the crime of heart stealing and several other counts.

The attendant judge read out with mock seriousness: “Defendant Steward Kyle, suspected of three crimes: heart stealing, charm, and being dashing and handsome! Does the defendant have anything to say?”

Only then did the dark eyes move away from Milo’s smiling face. Kyle looked at the judge and said calmly: “Reporting to the court, for the third count, not guilty. It is inborn and beyond my control.”

The room erupted in laughter. Milo slammed his silver cup laughing and cursing: “Arrogant! So arrogant!”

Kyle curved the corner of his mouth, his dark eyes lowering: “For the second count, a light offense. Charming appeal, naturally revealed, all unintentional acts, truly unavoidable.”

The crowd burst into laughter again, especially Milo. He rarely saw Kyle display such a witty side, and found it even more comical, even spraying tears from laughing. He could only hold his stomach, cursing and laughing nonstop.

“Objection! Objection!” A young attendant jumped out, raising his hand and shouting: “Lord Kyle is innocent! The charm offense is me, I am the sinner who has bewitched countless hearts.”

That attendant had delicate and pretty features, also handsome, but as he spoke he kept posing and preening, winking and making faces, making Lord Kyle appear even more handsome and refined by comparison, overturning everyone with laughter, and he was kicked down amid the laughter.

“Objection overruled.” The attendant judge barely holding back laughter struck the bone gavel: “Now, this court will try the defendant’s first and most serious crime, the most important of all, the crime of heart stealing. Where is the prosecutor?”

“Me me me!” Attendant William raised his hand and shouted, stepping onto his seat: “I want to press charges against Lord Kyle, radiating charm, stealing countless hearts!”

“Go for it! Prosecutor! Don’t let the defendant get off!” Milo also loudly joined the ruckus, raising his wine cup high under the soft blanket.

Kyle glanced sideways, catching in his peripheral vision the young master laughing so freely and radiantly, his spirits soaring. He faintly curved his lips, his tone calm: “Please tell me, where is the victim?”

“Still me!” William raised his hand again, his voice carrying: “Today at the hunting grounds, I saw Lord Kyle from afar. I saw him riding like the wind, arrows never missing their mark, shooting that big deer down, shooting my little deer into a panic, losing all thought. Wasn’t my heart stolen?”

William’s voice was melodious, his words vivid. As he spoke he also struck poses of drawing a bow and clutching his chest, so lifelike. After this accusation, one couldn’t tell if he was flattering or telling a story. The crowd also listened with great interest, occasionally clapping and cheering.

Milo propped his chin, watching with great interest. Generally speaking, flattering the young master’s steward was flattering the young master himself, but this trick didn’t work on Milo, in fact it had the opposite effect.

But for some reason, hearing it now, the young master wasn’t very put off, and even felt a bit of pleased warmth.

Golden eyes narrowed slightly, looking at that elegant and upright figure. In his mind floated the scene of galloping across the grassland, the slanting sun supporting the wind, the spreading scent of fresh grass, light and shadow mottled, in the woods, that burning body heat…

When William finished speaking, the crowd was nearly ready to applaud and cheer. The attendant judge asked: “Defendant Lord Kyle, how do you explain this?”

Kyle turned his head to examine William, looking him up and down for a moment, then sighed with regret: “For this I do not confess.”

The moment the words left his mouth, the crowd doubled over laughing, people falling back and forth. William even put on an act of being heartbroken, pounding his chest and wiping tears.

The attendant judge could no longer hold back, laughing until tears shone: “Defendant Lord Kyle, there are countless witnesses, the prosecutor has presented clear evidence, and you still want to deny it.”

Kyle paused a moment, his brows and eyes turning, then suddenly said: “I confess, I only admit to stealing one person’s heart.”

A moment of stillness, then the crowd went “Ooooooh” in an uproar, the atmosphere instantly heating up.

“Lord Kyle has a sweetheart?!”

“Hahaha! My sister is going to faint from crying!”

“Who is it? Who is it? Who is it?”

“So bold! Kyle! Taking responsibility!” Milo was even more excited, standing up, his golden eyes shining bright. Seeing Kyle put himself on the roasting rack, he raised his cup in tribute amid the noisy commotion: “I’ll drink to you later!”

“Order! Order! Let this court examine carefully.” The judge attendant struck the bone gavel, both eyes shining. Although the crowd wasn’t very familiar with Kyle, the atmosphere was warm and lively now, and gossip didn’t distinguish between close and distant, everyone loved it. He immediately asked: “Please state the details of the crime, who is the victim?”

“That I cannot say.” Kyle’s chin lifted slightly, answering with composure: “Afraid he’ll run away.”

The crowd laughed and cursed, even more excited, asking questions one after another, full of enthusiasm, afraid of falling behind.

“How did you meet?”

“What stage are you at? Scouting? Siege? Taking the fortress?”

“Where was the last date? When?”

“Who is it? Who is it? Who is it?”

“Order! Order! The defendant must answer.” The attendant judge waved at the defendant, then playfully struck a theatrical pious gesture, saying: “The God of Light witnesses, you must answer honestly.”

“Known for a long time. Currently between scouting and taking the fortress. The last date…” Kyle curved his lips: “Was very recently.”

The crowd erupted, whistling, knocking cups and pounding the table, the wooden cabin nearly boiling over. Even the guards in the outer hall poked their heads in to watch and laugh.

“My god! You enviable fellow!”

“The range is too broad! Were you at the practice grounds or charging into battle? Have you raised the flag and sent the letter? Broken through the city gate? Scaled the walls?”

“Objection! Objection! He seems to have said something, but also seems to have said nothing!”

“Who is it? Who is it? Who is it?”

“One last question, Defendant Lord Kyle, please describe in detail the scene of your first meeting.” The attendant judge pinched the bone gavel, raised his brows, and smiled mischievously: “Under the moonlight? Or after the wine cups?”

Kyle pondered a moment, both eyes lowering, his smile warm: “The first meeting was on an endless stretch of lawn. He walked toward me from the afternoon blazing sun, his whole body bathed in golden light…”

Milo’s smile froze.

“He smiled at me, his eyes like sunrise, like gems. I thought I saw an angel. Then, he threw himself into my arms, and we rolled on the grass…” Kyle said this, slowly raising his eyes to meet pairs of shining bright eyes, and smiled lightly: “That was our first meeting.”

A room of silence, firelight jumping, everyone looking at each other. The next second, it instantly exploded.

“Impossible! Absolutely impossible!”

“Objection! Objection! Your Honor, he’s lying! Add to his sentence!”

“Let him finish! What happened after? What happened after?”

“Who is it? Who is it? Who is it?”

As if the whole room had been set on fire, the crowd roared with laughter and commotion, nearly lifting the roof off. Some even threw their arms around Kyle’s shoulders and shook him nonstop, shouting with envy. The attendant judge could no longer maintain order, the bone gavel falling heavily: “The verdict is now delivered! Lord Kyle is guilty! Punishment: one drink!”

The commotion didn’t stop, laughter like thunder, as if even the roof beams were shaking. The air was full of the sweet scent of ale and the charred fragrance of venison, like a wall that even the wind outside couldn’t blow through.

But Milo was in a daze, his gaze scattered, his heart thumping like a drum, thinking to himself…

It must be Charlotte, right?! It must be, right! It’s not like only the North has lawns, there are many lawns near the royal city. Where the male lead and female lead meet in some afternoon and roll in the grass, that’s not strange at all, right, right!

His mind flustered and disordered, he raised his wine cup, only to find it empty. Just as he wanted to call for someone, a cup was handed to him from beside. Milo took it in one grab, drank it down in large gulps, and raised his head, only to meet a pair of dim platinum eyes.

Milo froze, looking at Lucian’s gloomy face, raising his brows: “What are you doing?”

The prince took a deep breath, both eyes lowering, his eyelashes covering the raging flames in the bottom of his eyes, but unable to conceal his cold face. He took a sip of wine, raised his hand slightly, and said lightly: “I want to press charges.”

In the midst of the laughter and commotion, the attendants quickly noticed the prince’s movement. The attendant judge’s bone gavel fell, smiling: “Your Highness, who do you wish to charge with what crime?”

“I want to press charges…” The prince pointed at Milo: “Milo, the crime of betrayal.”
