Kiss Mark : Chapter 1
The seventh day of the seventh lunar month is Zhong Ruizhou’s birthday.
Yu Wan had known him for three years, and this year was also the third year of their marriage. Yu Wan ran a bakery, so his birthday cake was naturally made by her own hands.
She sang the birthday song over the phone, “Happy birthday, Zhong Ruizhou, you are another year older.” Her laughter was sweet.
Zhong Ruizhou was only twenty-five years old this year. With refined features and a well-defined face, anyone outside would say your husband is so handsome. Only Yu Wan would tease him every birthday by saying that he was getting old.
Zhong Ruizhou smiled faintly and asked, “Where are you? Why aren’t you turning on the video call?”
“I’m at home, taking a big nap,” Yu Wan yawned, looking as if she hadn’t slept enough.
She was a genuine young lady of wealth, accustomed to a life of luxury since childhood. Zhong Ruizhou was her social equal, and naturally pampered and loved her after marriage.
Yu Wan lived as she pleased.
Zhong Ruizhou reminded her, “Remember to get up and eat when you’re hungry. I’ll have Aunt Zhang make the crystal shrimp you love.”
“Got it, hurry up and go back to your work.”
Hanging up the phone in a hurry, Yu Wan didn’t even dare to breathe heavily. She urged the driver, “Uncle Yang, can we get there before he gets off work?”
Zhong Ruizhou was on a business trip in Yushi. Driving from Changning to Yushi took about three hours, but Uncle Yang was very confident. “Don’t worry, I can get you there in two hours.”
She had gotten up early today, prepared the cake and gifts, put on a newly bought little dress, and gone out, dressing up clean and pretty so that Zhong Ruizhou could see her the moment he got off work.
Yu Wan had already started imagining the surprise on his face when he came back, opened the door, and saw her.
Little did she expect that a section of the highway would cave in, causing the car to plummet and hang suspended.
Zhong Ruizhou was still in an emergency meeting. His phone was lying on the table, and strange calls kept coming in one after another. Normally he wouldn’t answer them, but ever since hanging up with Yu Wan, he had felt uneasy, and right now his chest felt particularly heavy and oppressed.
He interrupted the person speaking on the other end. “Excuse me, I need to step out to take a call.”
And after he answered the phone, his entire face turned pale.
A serious traffic accident had occurred on National Highway 711. Yu Wan was lying in the hospital with her life hanging in the balance. By the time Zhong Ruizhou rushed over, Yu Wan had already been lying in the operating room for three hours.
“How is her condition?”
Zhong Ruizhou’s expression was extremely grim. The hospital was short-handed right now, and the nurse was in a rush. She only told Zhong Ruizhou that the situation did not look promising, the vehicle damage was severe, both the driver and Yu Wan were undergoing emergency resuscitation, and with heavy head bleeding, it was a narrow escape from death.
His heart sank to the bottom.
In the hospital hallway, the man’s stern black suit seemed out of place, but the paleness of his face made people feel that no one could be more pitiful than him.
His straight spine collapsed in an instant.
He slumped onto the bench nearby, opening the phone and bag Yu Wan had left behind. Aside from dried bloodstains, there was also a greeting card she had written by hand:
Happy birthday, Zhong Ruizhou, I love you the most.
Just looking at this graceful handwriting, Zhong Ruizhou could picture her smiling face and cheerful tone.
She would sweetly lean on his shoulder and say, “Zhong Ruizhou, I love you the most, you must be happy and joyful.”
She loved him, but never expected anything in return from him.
Zhong Ruizhou didn’t need to do anything for her; he only needed to be happy and joyful, just as she had always lived happily in this world without needing to be bound by any form of affection.
Love is inherently beautiful and free.
But now, Yu Wan had taken his love and joy and disappeared together with them.
