Kiss Mark : Chapter 2

After about a month, Yu Wan finally came out of the ICU. Even after coming out, she remained unconscious. Although she managed to cling to half her life, her condition was far from optimistic. Zhong Ruizhou halted all of his work, transferred her to the best hospital available, and stayed by her side day and night.

As time slipped away, it was measured in years.

The moment she finally woke up, Yu Wan did not remember him.

Not only did she not remember him, but she was also terrified.

In this unfamiliar environment, there was not a single person she recognized. Her throat was hoarse, and she cried silently, opening her mouth a few times before Zhong Ruizhou could finally make out what she was saying:

“Mom.”

She was looking for her mother.

Zhong Ruizhou consoled her, “I’ll go get her for you, don’t cry.”

With tears in her eyes, Yu Wan nodded.

However, the very first person Zhong Ruizhou called was actually the doctor. Afterwards, he stood in the hallway to compose himself for a long time before trembling as he dialed Yu Mother’s number.

The man’s suppressed voice carried a trace of hoarseness. “Mom, Yu Wan has woken up.”

Yu Wan waking up was something worth celebrating.

The Yu family had only this one precious daughter, who had been cherished and doted on since childhood. Yu Mother hadn’t rested properly in a long time, and it was only because she had stepped out for a brief moment in the morning that Yu Wan had woken up.

Both sets of parents rushed over frantically, surrounding the doctor to listen to the checkup report.

Zhong Ruizhou, who had been taking care of Yu Wan every single day, stood quietly in the farthest corner.

He heard the doctor say that Yu Wan had amnesia.

Everything that had happened over the past three years had been completely wiped from her mind. In other words, apart from her mother and father, everyone present, including Zhong Ruizhou himself, was excluded by her blank memory.

Zhong Ruizhou rubbed the wedding ring on his finger. His dark eyelashes pressed downward, and his eyes held a fragile look that was hard to detect. He said it didn’t matter, but his heart had already ached a hundred times over.

After waking up, Yu Wan no longer let Zhong Ruizhou take care of her. The hired nurse was still there, Yu Mother was there, and Yu Father even brought delicious food and fun things every day.

She didn’t feel bored at all being confined to this narrow little hospital room every day.

Instead, the moment Zhong Ruizhou arrived, Yu Wan felt as though she could barely breathe.

“Mom…” she said cautiously with a frown.

Her pale little face still carried a hint of illness, but compared to before, it had grown much more rosy. Her black eyelashes were curled, her lips were glossy and delicate, and her oval face looked both pretty and alluring.

Her innocent gaze was filled entirely with wariness toward him.

She really disliked strangers.

Whenever anyone got close, she would feel uncomfortable. Zhong Ruizhou knew this, so he only stood at the doorway of the ward.

“Mom, I brought some fruit.”

“Xiaowan, this is Ruizhou,” Yu Mother reminded her. “Your husband, you two are married.”

If she hadn’t said anything, it would have been fine, but the moment she did, Yu Wan’s brows furrowed even deeper.

She and Zhong Ruizhou had originally met through a blind date, with no emotional foundation whatsoever before marriage. Yu Wan knew nothing at all about this person, except that they were alumni, but back in high school, Yu Wan remembered that she and him did not get along at all and were the type to loathe each other the moment they met.

After marriage, the two of them quarreled even more, with minor arguments every two days and major arguments every three days.

The strange thing was that their relationship actually grew better with every argument.

Three years into their marriage, the two of them were as inseparable as glue and paint.

Now, everything had returned to the past.

Yu Wan said, “I don’t know him.”

This was identical to what she had said during their blind date: I don’t know him, and I don’t like him either.

Yet the moment they met back then, Yu Wan’s eyes had almost stared straight ahead.

She knew Zhong Ruizhou was very handsome, but she hadn’t expected adult Zhong Ruizhou to exude even stronger hormones. He carried the aura of a mature man throughout, being both domineering and overbearing, yet casually exuding a sense of scholarly poise and gentleness.

He completely suited Yu Wan’s tastes.

Yet he always gave her a hard time.

Back then, Yu Wan had a boyfriend. Qin Muzhou was someone she had met in college. He was a pretty good person, except that his family background was average. Yu Mother objected, and coupled with the fact that Yu Wan was growing increasingly exhausted by this relationship, she eventually compromised.

They broke up.

And then she went on a blind date.

Zhong Ruizhou stood at the doorway without saying anything more, simply setting the fruit down. “I’m leaving.”

The moment he turned around, Yu Wan didn’t even raise her head to look at him, but as she heard his footsteps growing farther and farther away, her heart inexplicably ached.

It must have been an illusion.
