The Villainous Male Supporting Character Courts Death Every Day : Chapter 5: Probing

The next day, Milo already had a plan. He sat upright at his desk, both elbows propped on the table, palms folded under his chin, putting on an overbearing posture, yet his golden eyes could not hide their brightness: “Kyle, I have a task for you.”

Kyle was somewhat surprised, though he showed nothing on his face. He bowed respectfully: “Young master, please give your orders.”

“The Count of Laurentis’s daughter, I believe her name is Charlotte. Rumor has it she is the greatest beauty in Osei,” Milo stared at Kyle without blinking, his gaze sharp, carrying eagerness and anticipation: “Next month is her birthday. As the only son of Duke Orsent of the Osei Empire, what do you think I should send as a gift?”

Kyle paused slightly, a shadow flashing through the depths of his eyes. Instead of answering, he asked: “Young master… do you wish to befriend Miss Charlotte?”

“Befriend her? I suppose so. I simply want to win a smile from the fair lady.” Milo’s eyes curved into a smile, his head tilting back slightly, looking utterly enchanted. He sighed: “If I could win her favor, that would be even better.”

Kyle’s eyes half lowered, and he said lightly: “Would you like me to send someone to learn about her preferences?”

“You are right. We should understand her first. Then go investigate quickly.” Milo urged him away eagerly: “Go, I await your news.”

Kyle accepted the order and was about to withdraw, but Milo called him back. “Young master, is there anything else?”

“This matter takes top priority, and also…” Milo gave a mysterious warning: “Do not let word get out. I want to surprise her.”

Kyle bowed slightly to show understanding, then exited the room. The moment the door closed, the warmth and respect in his eyes vanished instantly, replaced by sharpness and gloom.

He did not like Milo paying attention to other women. Or rather, he did not like Milo paying attention to anyone other than him. Since he began serving the young master as a child, the young master’s gaze had always been on him alone, every moment, his whole mind filled with how to tease him, bully him, torment him, day and night, never tiring of it.

In the young master’s world, he was the young master’s everything. There had never been anyone else, nor should there ever be anyone else.

Kyle stopped in his tracks, his pitch black eyes narrowing slightly, dark and unclear, the corners of his mouth still bearing his signature smile, yet the smile carried a bone chilling coldness. He murmured dangerously: “Young master… has grown up…”

~~~~~~
Kyle handled matters properly. In less than half a day, he brought back Charlotte’s information, including her background, appearance, interests, talents, and social connections.
Milo lay sprawled across the desk flipping through the documents, secretly clicking his tongue in admiration. Charlotte truly deserved to be the daughter of an ancient noble house. Her features were dignified and lovely, her bearing elegant. She was proficient in music, especially piano, which was her greatest skill. She also had a kind heart and an excellent reputation.
Milo scratched his head in irritation: “She looks like a well educated and cultured talented woman. In that case, ordinary jewelry and accessories probably would not catch the beauty’s eye. Tell me, what should I send?”
Kyle stood to one side and said lightly: “Young master, why not cater to her tastes and send some rare antique books or art pieces? It would express your regard while avoiding the commonplace.”
“Antique books are too boring, and art pieces are rather ordinary too. Those are exactly the commonplace. What difference is there from ordinary gifts?” Milo lay back against the chair back in displeasure, lifting both feet onto the desk and crossing them, his little face scrunched up: “No good! Think of something else for me. I am the noble son of a duke. I must send the most noble, the most special gift, something no one else could possibly offer.”
Listening silently to Milo’s endless chatter, Kyle kept his eyes lowered, his black eyes like the still waters of a quiet night, deep and waveless. Only when Milo picked up his teacup, his mouth dry from talking, did he slowly speak: “Young master, Miss Charlotte’s piano skill is superb. How about sending her a noble piano?”
Milo was greatly startled. He nearly sprayed out a mouthful of tea. Kyle quickly bent down to pat his back and help him breathe. After quite a while he recovered. Milo raised his moist eyes to glare at him, his heart thumping wildly: “A piano? What piano?”
Kyle lowered his voice, whispering in a tone only the two of them could hear: “The piano of Maestro Zabert.”
Milo was stunned, his pupils contracting.
Kyle continued unhurriedly: “Maestro Zabert is the most renowned legendary musician of our time. His piano has accompanied the creation of countless classic compositions, and is also the greatest treasure of the empire’s music world. If it could be given as a gift to Miss Charlotte, it would both highlight your unique status and make Miss Charlotte see you in a new light. What does the young master think?”
Milo was dazed. Only after a long while did he react, his gaze flickering, drifting about: “Maestro Zabert’s piano… yes, it is indeed worthy of the ducal house’s name, only…”
His slender fingers tapped on the table, a pair of golden eyes sizing Kyle up with suspicion: “How would we get his piano?”
“Young master, please rest assured,” Kyle lowered his eyelids, smiling lightly, the smile like a blade in the night: “As long as this is your wish, Maestro Zabert will naturally and willingly offer up the piano.”
Milo propped up his chin, his fingertips rubbing along his jaw. Setting aside Kyle’s official language, this was nothing more than taking what someone loves. He was somewhat hesitant about offending the arts community, yet he was also curious how Kyle would obtain Zabert’s piano.
His malicious young master character was willful and arrogant by nature, so he was not afraid of offending people. But Kyle, as the male lead who endured hardship and bore heavy burdens, doing such a thing of forcible seizure for him, was that alright?
Milo glanced at Kyle’s composed and elegant appearance, and for some reason imagined him being chased out the door by Zabert with a broom. He burst out laughing, his smiling face glowing in the sunlight, bright and dazzling, radiant and captivating.
Kyle was instantly stunned, as if the whole world had dimmed before that smile. His chest warmed, the bright radiance seeping into his heart, quietly rippling out in his heart. The gloom and stuffiness were swept away, replaced by a sweet yet sour fluttering of the heart.
He thought, in order to capture that genuine smile, he was willing to stand guard for a lifetime, until death do them part.
“Very well, go try.” Milo’s face flushed red from laughing, the corners of his eyes moist, blinking playfully: “But mind your image. Do not do anything embarrassing.”
“Young master, rest assured. I will act with caution and will not damage the young master’s reputation.” As if having secretly made up his mind, Kyle’s tone grew even lighter, his gaze softer, yet he looked fully confident, as if this were as simple as ordering a meal.
“If you can truly get Zabert’s piano, then I will have really held my head high in social circles.” Milo stood up with interest, adjusting Kyle’s collar flippantly. In the end his small hand climbed onto the man’s chest, whispering softly: “If you handle this well, this young master will not be stingy with your reward.”
Kyle’s gaze flickered slightly, and he nodded: “Young master, rest assured. Await my good news.”
Milo raised his brows slightly, stepping back to size Kyle up carefully, his gaze half believing and half doubting, but more amused. Finally he spread both hands, putting on an expression of waiting to see what would happen, and smiled: “Kyle, I look forward to your performance. Do not disappoint me.”
“Young master, rest assured. I will certainly not betray your expectations.” Kyle smiled faintly, bowed, and took his leave.
Watching Kyle leave, the moment the door closed, Milo excitedly jumped onto the bed, rolling back and forth on it in excitement.
“Heavens, what destined love this is!” Milo wrapped himself in the silk quilt, rolling himself into a cocoon like a silkworm, giggling foolishly, his eyes shining.
It turned out that Miss Charlotte was one of the female leads in the original book, the pursuit target that this malicious supporting male character clung to relentlessly, and also a part of the male lead Kyle’s love and political intrigue story. In the future she would also represent the ancient nobility and become a great help for Kyle in ascending to the peak of power.
The coincidence was that in the original story, Kyle had sent Charlotte a piano, winning over this high and proud flower completely. And that piano was Zabert’s piano.
“The protagonist group truly shares a spiritual connection. They have not even met face to face yet, and already the gift hits right at the heart…” Milo hmphed, not even noticing the sourness in his own tone. He merely lay on his pillow, propping his chin in thought: “But Zabert that old man is not dead yet. I wonder how Kyle will get the piano…”
In the original story, Zabert was later executed and his property confiscated in subsequent political struggles. The piano fell into the hands of the villainous duke. But the duke’s family were all pretentious fools who did not truly appreciate the value of Zabert’s piano. They only treated it as a trophy of political struggle, leaving it to gather dust in a warehouse.
Kyle used his position to secretly transport the piano to Miss Charlotte, who revered music, under the pretext of protecting a treasure of the music world. This established a lofty position in the beauty’s heart, thoroughly moving her, and in subsequent plot developments he gained Miss Charlotte’s full support.
That plot thread showcased both the male lead’s refined and cultured side and his insight into human nature and precise political skill. It also laid the groundwork for the earth shattering romantic love story between the male and female leads.
Milo had originally wanted to use the gift giving to probe the male lead’s stance. Now he had not only brought the male and female leads into contact ahead of time, but also accelerated the plot by sending out Zabert’s piano, this token of love. At this rate, he might even be able to finish work early.
“Wait, this should not affect the plot direction…” Milo belatedly lifted his head from the pillow, thought for a moment, then lay back down indifferently: “Anyway, it will all be returned intact in the end. It should not make a difference. Just a token of love, not an important plot point.”
Milo analyzed it. The only function of Zabert’s piano was for the female lead to think of the male lead while playing a beautiful tune under the moonlight, channeling her emotions through the music with tender piano notes or whatever.
If the piano could truly be delivered to the female lead’s hands ahead of time, letting them start their lovey dovey romance earlier, and also sparing the Zabert family’s lives, that would not be a bad thing. Besides…
“If he can truly get the piano, does that also mean his methods are already on the plot line? Then my dark nurturing can retire with success.” Milo squinted his eyes and chuckled secretly, feeling that the future was bright.
