Chapter 20: Not serious

Who would have thought that killing two birds with one stone would be possible? It’s better than winning the lottery.

Saming was arrested on charges of kidnapping and assault, but more importantly, the authorities had solid evidence linking him to be the big boss of the Black Bull gang, a gang that had been causing headaches for quite some time.

“Unbelievable. What made him get involved?”

Even Kanin couldn’t believe it. The evidence and details they obtained were airtight, leaving no room for denial. And after interrogation, Saming confessed everything.

But it’s strange…

No matter who went in, Saming refused to talk and kept silent. It had to be Police Sergeant Mangkon. He probably felt guilty about what he had done after reflecting and contemplating on his actions.

“And you’re still letting Mangkon see him?”

“He said he would only talk to Mangkon.” Who would want him to go?

“What kind of love is that? I’d be haunted too if someone did that.” Kanin muttered, feeling both angry and sorry for Mangkon having to deal with someone like Saming.

“I don’t understand it at all, Nadol.”

The playful young captain turned to look at the Chiang Mai captain. Nadol didn’t want to say much to Kanin. They only said a few words nicely to each other. Most of the time, they were just sarcastic.

Three days they love each other, four days they fight to the death.

“Now that this crazy business is over, wanna grab a beer? I’m craving beer, man!” “Are you coming, Nadol?”

“You keep teasing Nadol. Just get it over with and bang already.”

“Inspector!” Nadol exclaimed, blushing with embarrassment. Kanin laughed loudly in satisfaction, while Thian could only smirk.

The atmosphere was noticeably more relaxed than in the past few days. Thian was also relieved beyond words. Finally, the crazy things that had been plaguing him were over. But there was still a troubling thought stuck in his head.

If Mangkon hadn’t been transferred here, he wouldn’t have gotten hurt.

This thought was like a hammer hitting his heart again and again. Whether the rumor that marrying the younger one could solve his bad luck was true, he didn’t know. But Mangkon had been hurt because of him all along.

Thian raised his hand and rubbed his face, sighing heavily. Even though a certain feeling in his heart didn’t want to let go of Mangkon, the other part of the him told him that he shouldn’t drag him deeper into a dangerous cycle.

Even though the divorce contract wasn’t up for another six months, he thought it was time.

He didn’t want Mangkon to get hurt again. He didn’t want him to risk it… This time was lucky. Everything ended without injury or death. But what about next time? Would they be so lucky again?

There would be no next time.

“What’s wrong, Thian? Why do you look so troubled?” “Do you think I should stay for another two months?”

“What are you talking about? Two months? What the hell are you saying?” “Ugh, I don’t even know anymore!”

Thian was extremely troubled. He wanted to rip his hair out. The handsome face looked back and forth between his two subordinates, who clearly didn’t understand his confusion.

Well, who would understand him?! But in that moment…

Knock, knock, knock.

The sound of three knocks on the door rang out. Makhahm, a female employee, opened the door and entered Thian’s office, speaking with a neutral expression.

“Someone is here to see you, Inspector.” “Who is it?”

“Well, it’s…”

But before she could answer, the visitor Makhahm mentioned slipped past her and appeared before the officers. Eyes as black as onyx widened in surprise as he exclaimed.

“Belle!”

“How are you, Thian?”

Shit! Thian’s ex-girlfriend! Kanin was equally stunned.

Belle was the ex-girlfriend of his best friend, who was crazy in love with her. He thought this woman was 100% going to be the mother of his kids. But one day, they had to break up because Belle chose to pursue her future studies abroad. Thian was so heartbroken that he went off the rails for a while.

“You’re… you’re back?”

“Yes, I’ve been back for two days. I wanted to see Thian.”

“Are you free today? Would you like to go out for something to eat?”

The straightforward invitation left Thian speechless for a moment. Someone who had disappeared from his thoughts for so long was back standing in front of him. Belle looked as radiant as ever, unchanged, except for her beautiful face, which looked a little fuller.

“Are you going, Thian?” she repeated with a smile. “Yes, yes.” he agreed.

“Belle will wait for you then.”

On Mangkon’s side, even though he had been ordered to rest again, he felt that his body wasn’t experiencing any major problems. As for his mental state, although he admitted that he had some lingering concerns and still woke up startled in the night, overall, he didn’t think he was sick enough to be off work.

The bad things were finally over. From now on, he hoped to encounter only good things. He still hoped that Senior Saming would be able to live the life he wanted one day.

He just had to forgive him.

The small figure rolled around on the large bed, gazing out the window, sighing softly with boredom.

Chiang Mai, as he knew it, was a popular province for tourists, full of beautiful places, good weather, and delicious food. But since moving here, he hadn’t had a chance to experience anything beyond work.

“Do I only work and not live life at all?” the clear voice muttered to himself, as he turned over again. The slightly annoyed face turned to look at the ceiling, thinking.

“Or should I go out today?” “It’s not like I’m sick.”

Various excuses were made. He quickly got out of bed and headed to the closet, preparing to change clothes to go somewhere. And he made up his mind immediately.

“I’ll go to Doi Suthep then.”

It didn’t take more than thirty minutes to take care of personal matters. Mangkon, dressed in simple casual clothes, left the bedroom, making sure to take his necessary belongings with him. The journey wasn’t difficult. He simply flagged down a red songthaew (shared taxi), or what the people of Chiang Mai affectionately call a “red car,” to head towards the foot of Doi Suthep. Then, he would wait for other passengers to share the fare.

“Nong Mangkon, where are you going, dear?” Pharada asked when she saw her daughter-in-law dressed in an unusual way.

“I was thinking of going sightseeing for a bit.” “Why don’t you wait for Gear first?”

“It’s alright, really.”

Without the Inspector, he could rely on himself. The soft, round face wore a smile as he excused himself. Today, he wanted to be a tourist for a day, to release the fatigue and crazy things he’d been through.

The red car moved along the roads. Today, it seemed luck was on Mangkon’s side. It wasn’t long before three foreign tourists joined the trip up Doi Suthep. There was a brief greeting before everyone found a seat.

As the car slowly climbed the mountain, his round eyes were fixed on the scenery that gradually changed from the houses in the city to the lush green of tall trees on both sides of the road.

“Beautiful, isn’t it?”

The cool wind that blew through the window brought freshness to his face. The small figure inhaled the natural scent that permeated the surroundings. The cool air of the forest felt so relaxing.

Arriving at Doi Suthep, the police constable didn’t rush. He slowly strolled along, looking at the things on the side of the road. But suddenly, his eyes were caught by a car parked in front of him.

“Why… it looks like the Inspector’s car.”

“It probably isn’t.” He couldn’t even remember the license plate.

But it wasn’t something to dwell on. His light brown eyes moved up to look at the stairs that stretched all the way to the top of the mountain. He pondered the two choices before him. Would he try to challenge his leg strength by walking up the stairs step by step, or would he choose to take the comfortable cable car to save his energy to enjoy the view above? In the end, the person who loved a challenge chose…

“Walking is better.”

A deep breath was taken into his lungs before his slender legs stepped forward. Step by step, the stairs were overcome. But this path was still a long way. When he looked around, he saw only people standing and resting, holding tightly to the railings.

How much could it be?

But in less than three minutes, large beads of sweat began to appear on his face along with the sound of his heavy, panting breath. However, obstacles are meant to be overcome. Only a few more steps.

One…

Two…

Three…

He began to count in his mind, and finally, he reached his goal. What a nuisance, he thought.

His slender hand reached out to grab the back of a seat, breathing in and out to normalize his blood pressure. But at that moment, his eyes suddenly caught sight of a familiar figure in the distance. A tall man in casual police attire was walking with a young woman. The two seemed relaxed and close.

“I-Inspector…” Who is he with?

But before he could rest and recover, he saw that they were heading towards the area where he was. Mangkon quickly walked to hide behind a large pillar. He could still hear the conversation clearly.

“We haven’t been out together in a long time, Thian.” “Last time was before Belle went to study abroad, right?” “Thian has a good memory. Was it before we broke up?”

Before breaking up… that must mean this person is Thian’s ex-girlfriend. “Belle is still the same, unchanged.”

“Thian is handsome as ever.”

The owner of the large, round eyes was secretly studying the face of the woman named Belle. She was unlike Thian’s beautiful girlfriends he’d met before. Her pretty face was delicate and petite. Her eyes were shaped like beautiful peach blossoms, and her smile was as bright as the sun. She seemed to be a very graceful person.

Is this the type the Inspector likes… then what do I have to compete with?

The feeling of comparing himself to her arose immediately. His thin lips pressed together tightly, trying to ignore what he heard and suppress the feelings that were erupting in his chest, but he still listened.

“It’s been so many years. Has Thian had a girlfriend or gotten married yet?” That sentence made Thian laugh immediately.

“Didn’t I tell Belle that if I’m serious about someone, I’ll tell Belle? Has there been any time that I told Belle?” Courteous. The Inspector was being very polite and gentle.

“No, Thian hasn’t told Belle.”

“So that means I haven’t been serious about anyone.”
