Sword Slaying the Jianghu : Chapter 23: The Battle of the Thatched Hall (3)

However, just as Su Mohan finished spinning, he saw the broadsword cleaving down yet again. This time, the broadsword was aiming right at his waist. Su Mohan had assumed the man would strike at his head, and it was already too late to pull back his raised sword. Thus, he had no choice but to take a step back, but he instantly felt a sudden chill rushing toward his back.

He figured he was truly at the end of his rope this time. He would either have to take a deep gash from this broadsword, or block that other attack with his back.

Yet in a split second, he kicked off hard with both legs, leaping up right through the gap between the two attacks. He soared over ten feet high into the air, immediately flipped his body upside down, and then unleashed that familiar move once more, as a beautiful crescent moon arc sliced downward.

This time, no one had expected Su Mohan to use this move again. They never imagined his reactions would be this fast or his lightness kung fu would be this superb. The one eared brute and the axe wielding brute, who had trapped Su Mohan in a pincer attack, had the very tops of their heads cleanly sliced off. Inside, steaming brains were instantly exposed, mixed with bright red blood that kept pulsing. It looked just like a dish made of wild game—eating monkey brains alive.

The axe wielding brute clutched his axe and fell headfirst straight into the sandy beach. Meanwhile, the one eared brute was still reaching out to touch his own brains, though his expression had already frozen. All of this was just a conditioned reflex from his twisted mind. A moment later, he too crashed face first into the yellow sand, kicking up a massive cloud of dust, looking just like ripples formed when a giant boulder plunges into water.

The man wielding the hooks was completely frozen with fear. He had just suffered a setback from this very move earlier, and his scalp was still throbbing with pain. He never expected Su Mohan to pull off this move again in the nick of time, making it truly impossible to guard against. Not only did terror strike his heart, but he was also deeply awed by how terrifyingly fearless and incredibly calm Su Mohan remained in the face of danger. He stood there, not daring to move a single muscle.

“What kind of sword style is that? How come I’ve never heard of such a sword move before?” The man wielding the bronze maces barely managed to keep his composure.

Having sliced through the skulls of the two men, Su Mohan did another backflip in mid air. Just as he lightly touched down on the ground, blood was still dripping from the tip of his sword, and words were already leaving his mouth.

“This is the second form of the Nine Sun Series, ‘Sun and Moon Shine Together,’ created by Grandpa Su himself,” Su Mohan said coldly.

“What a brilliant move, ‘Sun and Moon Shine Together.’ It starts like the morning glow piercing the sky, and then the sword light slices down like a crescent moon. It is truly ruthless. Too bad I don’t want to die a miserable death like them.” Having said that, the mace wielding brute raised his mace and plunged it into his own abdomen, dropping straight to his knees as the blood from his stomach stained his clothes red.

Su Mohan was someone who deeply valued heroic spirit, and he especially respected true men like his foster father. Seeing the man commit suicide, he felt a wave of sympathy. Thus, he walked over to seal the man’s pressure points to stop the blood pouring from his abdominal wound.

Little did Su Mohan know how deceptive people could be. In reality, the spot the mace wielding man had stabbed was a non lethal area, and he had merely used a self injury trick.

Su Mohan was completely caught off guard. As he watched the dagger thrust toward him, his eyes filled with confusion and his mind went entirely blank.

However, just as the dagger was thrust out, it dropped straight to the ground like a ripe apple.

Half of a sword blade had already sunk deep into the top of the mace wielding man’s head. The person who killed him was none other than the swordsman who had been keeping a low profile the entire time.

“Sorry, brother, but I still have to make you die just as miserably as them,” the swordsman said calmly, looking down into the eyes of the mace wielding man, who died with his eyes wide open.

Su Mohan was completely stunned and only snapped out of it after hearing the man speak.

“Didn’t you guys team up to come here? How could you?”

The swordsman said, “We were just a temporary group thrown together just now. We actually have no bond between us whatsoever.”

“But his self injury trick had just succeeded. Why didn’t you take the chance to let him get rid of me? That way, you’d have one less competitor.”

The swordsman said, “If it were you, would you choose to have one more loyal, honorable friend, or…”

“Hey, I’m a living, breathing person standing right here. How can you two just completely ignore my existence?” The hook wielding man suddenly interrupted the swordsman.

“Oh, I almost forgot about you.” The swordsman suddenly walked toward the hook wielding man, a cold killing intent flashing in his eyes.

Su Mohan let out a sigh, “Sigh, wouldn’t it have been fine if you just slipped away while we weren’t paying attention? Why did you have to ask for death!”

The hook wielding man did not seem afraid at all. He quickly said with a big smile, “Hey, brothers, we are on the same team. Since you are on his team now, he is on my team too. We are all on the same team.”

The hook wielding man’s mouth moved faster and faster, but the swordsman ignored him completely. He rested his sword directly on the man’s shoulder and said coldly, “For the sake of us fighting side by side just now, I’ll give you a chance to choose. Do you want to keep going into the thatched hall? Or will you get lost on your own?”

“I say, buddy, you’re not being fair. Isn’t this killing the donkey once the grinding is done, or burning the bridge after crossing it?” The hook wielding man was highly indignant.

Su Mohan also felt that he had a point, so he backed him up, saying, “We are few and isolated, and entering the thatched hall is bound to be even more dangerous. One more person always means more strength. Since he wants to go in with us, let him join.”

The swordsman pulled back his sword and walked back toward Su Mohan.

“Do you know why I saved you?”

“Isn’t it just because you want to form an alliance with me, fight our way into the thatched hall together, and join the Qin Estate to enjoy a good life!” Su Mohan said as he sheathed his sword.

“That’s not the whole reason.”

“Then it’s…” Su Mohan said, looking at the other man with a look of disgust. He thought to himself that this guy couldn’t possibly have a thing for men and be eyeing his handsome looks! Aside from this reason, he truly could not think of a more logical explanation.

“It’s because of the sword moves you used. I saw traces of the Tianji Gate in them. You must have modified and created your sword style based on the kung fu of the Tianji Gate! Actually, I am from the Tianji Gate too, so…”

“Hey, I’m a living, breathing person standing right here. You can’t just ignore my existence time and time again! So, are we forming an alliance or what?” The hook wielding man shouted with some impatience, interrupting the swordsman once again.

Su Mohan and the swordsman turned their heads to look at him. Su Mohan said helplessly, “It seems this guy really is a hassle. We might as well let him come with us!”

“Come over here.” The swordsman gestured to the hook wielding man, as if Su Mohan’s words had worked.

A joyful look appeared on the hook wielding man’s face. As he walked over, he secretly thought to himself: Just you wait, in a moment, I’ll stab you in the back…

Unfortunately, before the hook wielding man could even finish his thought, a sudden sword plunged deep into his chest. He only heard the swordsman say coldly, “Go in peace!”

“Why did you do that?” Su Mohan was puzzled.

The swordsman slowly pulled out his sword and explained, “He knows our identity now. He absolutely cannot be kept alive.”

Su Mohan remained silent. This was indeed the order passed down from above; they absolutely could not expose their identity as members of the Tianji Gate.

The swordsman then asked, “Judging by your martial arts, you should be at the Heavenly General level, right? I wonder which of the Eight Heavenly Generals you are?”

“I am no Heavenly General. I am merely the Sect Leader.”

“How is that possible? Could it be that your superior is deliberately holding you back? Tell me which Heavenly General is so bold as to be so unfair with rewards and punishments. I will definitely file a formal complaint against him to the higher ups when I get back.”
