Sword Slaying the Jianghu : Chapter 6: A Rainbow Piercing the Sun
“I cannot die. If I die, who will take care of my wife and child? Will they be hunted down by my enemies?” Just as this thought flashed through Su Lianyun’s mind, another voice echoed faintly, “Lianyun, get up, hurry up and get up! The child is waiting for you to eat. Look at how he’s pouting his little mouth from hunger.” His wife’s face instantly materialized before his eyes.
The crowd looked at one another in mutual dismay, and not a single person dared to go and check whether Su Lianyun was actually dead or alive.
At that moment, Su Lianyun’s body began to move slowly. Using his sword to brace against the ground, he gradually stood up.
“Ah!” Su Lianyun roared, unleashing his ultimate fatal strike, a technique known as the Rainbow Piercing the Sun.
His ragged, blood-stained clothes stirred without the wind, and his sword energy was overwhelmingly oppressive. Innumerable shadows of the blade formed a circle, striking down upon the crowd with overwhelming force. The Frenzied Demon Lian Wentian, the Monk of Saibei, and the Yin Mountain Mengpo used their inner energy to resist. Meanwhile, those with weaker inner energy clutched their ears as if having a breakdown, collapsing to the ground and groaning in agony. Some even bled from their seven facial orifices and died on the spot.
Su Lianyun then leapt into the air and spun rapidly. The fierce sword energy spun along with his body, creating a vortex that struck out at everyone.
The Monk of Saibei had his body slashed with countless cuts, while the Frenzied Demon Lian Wentian was forced backward repeatedly, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth.
At this moment, the Third Young Master of the Huang family pulled his head into his robes. His entire garment swelled up like a balloon, expanding into a sphere, and he rolled toward Su Lianyun at lightning speed. Su Lianyun pierced the sphere with a single thrust, the tip of his blade driving straight into the Third Young Master’s heart.
The Third Young Master could not believe that the Golden Bell Shield technique he had practiced for so many years could be broken so easily. Filled with regret, he died beneath Su Lianyun’s sword.
The Monk of Saibei had never seen such a terrifying lethal move and knew full well that the tide had turned. If this continued, he would surely become a casualty of Su Lianyun’s blade. He was only hired by the Qin estate to help Qin Guanghai, so there was no need to lose his life over this. With that thought, he fled in one direction, his figure vanishing from the summit in an instant.
The Frenzied Demon Lian Wentian was also well aware of the current situation. If they kept fighting, even if they managed to kill Su Lianyun, he might not get any advantage out of it. If they ended up mutually destroyed and someone else snatched the spoils, wouldn’t all his efforts be in vain? If he did not leave now, it would be hard to avoid a mutually destructive struggle with Su Lianyun. As the saying goes, when the mantis stalks the cicada, the oriole follows behind. How could he play the mantis and do the hard work just for someone else to reap the rewards? He shot a meaningful glance at the Yin Mountain Mengpo, and the two of them drifted down toward the foot of the peak simultaneously. Their voices suddenly echoed from the valley below, “Hero Su, your martial arts are unmatched in the world. We shall fight another day.”
Qin Guanghai was heavily injured, and his mind had been in a complete daze. Only now did he wake up as if from a dream. He was severely wounded, his subordinates were nearly all dead or injured, and those experts who had fantasized about winning fame and power had scattered like frightened animals. Those who remained were hurt even worse than he was and were unable to escape. He no longer had any intention of fighting.
Su Lianyun held his sword and walked slowly toward Qin Guanghai, the tip of the blade making a rustling sound against the ground. Watching Su Lianyun close in on him, Qin Guanghai and a few others who could still crawl retreated slowly. At this moment, Qin Guanghai was like a lamb waiting for the slaughter, a fish on the chopping board, completely stripped of the power to resist. Some who feared death even wet their pants in terror.
Qin Guanghai was a young master of the Qin estate, holding a noble status. Although he was terrified of dying at this moment, he could not lose the poise of a great clan or the demeanor of a young master. Forcing himself to maintain a calm composure, he spoke slowly, “Let me go, and I promise I will never bother you again.”
Qin Guanghai choked slightly as he spoke, seemingly gripped by immense fear, and then continued, “I will never disturb you and your wife living a care-free life, I will never disturb you.”
Su Lianyun suddenly threw his head back and laughed out loud. Qin Guanghai looked completely bewildered, “What are you laughing at?”
Su Lianyun’s laughter stopped abruptly, and he said coldly, “I am laughing because you are a coward. Killing you would stain my sword. Get out of here!”
Fearing that Su Lianyun might change his mind, Qin Guanghai could no longer care less about his heavily injured subordinates who could not leave. He practically rolled and crawled, stumbling his way down Jiutou Mountain.
The sky was murky, and the warm early-winter afternoon sun was obscured by thick layers of clouds. A biting, bleak wind blew past, whipping up the dust on the ground into a swirling haze.
On the official highway outside Yuzhou City, a carriage traveled at a leisurely pace, looking much like a camel strolling through a sandstorm, very serene.
The carriage rocked back and forth, and the driver had already yawned several times in a row. Leaning against the door of the carriage, his eyelids began to fight as if he were about to fall asleep in the midst of this swaying motion.
At that moment, a rustling sound of footsteps came from behind the carriage. The sound was dull yet drawn out, and the ground vibrated rhythmically along with the footsteps.
Startled by this sudden commotion, the driver lost all sleepiness. With one hand pulling the reins and the other bracing against the carriage door, he turned his head in astonishment to look behind.
He shockingly saw that amidst the wind and sand, seven fierce-looking men with bare upper bodies were running forward at a rapid pace with heavy, synchronized steps. Wherever they passed, sand flew and stones rolled, throwing up high clouds of dust like a tornado, which was a terrifying sight to behold.
They were lined up in a single file, the muscles on their chests twitching up and down. A stark white leather rope was draped diagonally across their trembling chests, extending backward, clearly pulling something behind them.
The seven burly men were covered in crystal-clear beads of sweat, and behind the sweat were cold, expressionless faces.
Seven people, seven faces, all equally ferocious, moving in perfect unison as if they had come from the same womb.
As they drew closer, the driver finally saw clearly that behind the seven men, they were actually pulling a flatbed cart. On the cart lay a coffin, coated with a thick layer of white paint on the outside, without any other ornate decorative carvings.
A pure white coffin!
The driver considered himself to have lived for most of his life, traveling far and wide and seeing plenty of strange things, but this white coffin was a first. He couldn’t help but look at it a bit longer. Who would have thought that the white coffin seemed to possess a magical power, causing his gaze to freeze upon it, unable to look away.
The white coffin slowly approached, and just as it was about to pass the carriage, its speed suddenly slowed down, as if it deliberately intended to drive side by side with the carriage.
Sensing that something was wrong, the driver’s hand holding the reins whipped out as a reflex. The leisurely horse, struck by the reins, seemed to get a sudden burst of adrenaline. It immediately became full of energy, gave a long neigh, and bolted forward.
The person inside the carriage was fast asleep and knew absolutely nothing about what was happening outside. Caught completely unprepared, they tumbled upside down inside.
With terrified eyes, the driver kept his head turned to stare at that white coffin. The coffin was as eerie as a ghost, speeding up when the carriage sped up and slowing down when it slowed down, consistently maintaining its position right alongside them.
