The Second Young Master’s Obedient Husband : Chapter 28
Up ahead there was a cloth seller, and Liang Yu pulled Su Qingyu into the fabric shop.
The fabric shop had all kinds of materials, coarse cloth, fine cloth, cotton cloth, silk and satin, stacked high bolt by bolt. Liang Yu had the shop assistant bring out several bolts of bright colored fabric, all colors that young men wore.
“Cut a few lengths, make spring clothes.”
Su Qingyu touched those soft materials, and hearing his words hurriedly pulled his hand back, shaking his head fiercely.
Liang Yu pressed down on Su Qingyu’s head, and added another sentence. “And underclothes too, cut a few feet of good ones.”
He pointed at that bolt of fine soft cotton cloth. “This feels comfortable, cut a few feet.”
The shop assistant responded and went to measure the cloth.
Liang Yu turned to look at the silk and satin, but Su Qingyu hurriedly grabbed him. “No need, Second Brother Liang, it’s already too much.”
Liang Yu picked Su Qingyu up like a kitten to look at the silk and satin, his fingertips slipping into Su Qingyu’s back collar to pinch a couple of times, and Su Qingyu went red and still. Liang Yu gave a light laugh, and only withdrew his hand when the person went docile.
Su Qingyu came back to his senses and saw those silks and satins, his eyes subconsciously brightening. Jiangnan silk, northern damask, woven densely, giving off a soft luster, smooth and cool to the touch. The prices were bright too, one foot cost several times that of the fine cotton.
Liang Yu looked at those silks and satins, then looked at Su Qingyu, and asked. “You like them?”
Su Qingyu immediately shook his head. Silk and satin were of course good, but too expensive, and they weren’t convenient for doing work in everyday life.
Liang Yu looked at that hesitant little face, and suddenly said. “They’d be suitable for underclothes.”
Su Qingyu froze for a moment, his face instantly going completely red.
The shopkeeper heard this, her eyes lighting up, and she said with a smile. “What this gentleman says is right. Silk and satin is most comfortable for underclothes, smooth against the skin, warm in winter and cool in summer. Would you like to look at some ready made ones?” Saying this, she took out several finished pieces from under the counter. “These few are silk, softer than satin, and the prices are reasonable too.”
Su Qingyu looked at those pieces of underclothes, his face red beyond bearing. Those were worn right against the skin, how could he pick them out in front of people…
Liang Yu pinched Su Qingyu, and said to the shopkeeper. “Take him to the inner room to pick himself, I’ll wait.”
He let go of Su Qingyu, leaned close to his ear, and said with a smile in a low voice. “Pick several more, pick pretty ones, rotate between them.”
Su Qingyu stood in place, his face burning hot. The shopkeeper took him into the inner room. Inside hung a row of underclothes, all kinds of materials and all kinds of colors. There were coarse cloth ones, fine cotton ones, and silk and satin ones too.
The shopkeeper took out several best sellers and laid them on the counter, saying with a smile. “Young gentleman, don’t be shy, what’s there to be embarrassed about. These few are all silk, soft, breathable, comfortable to wear. Feel the texture yourself.”
Su Qingyu reached out his hand and touched, it was indeed soft, smooth and slippery, better than his own coarse cloth underclothes by who knew how many times.
The shopkeeper introduced them one by one. “If you think they’re too plain, you can embroider some flowers yourself, add some color.”
Su Qingyu looked at those pieces of underclothes, hesitated for a good while, and picked several with a red face.
The shopkeeper wrapped them up, and asked if he wanted anything else. Su Qingyu shook his head, held that bundle of things, and came out of the fabric shop with a red face.
Liang Yu had brought the cart over, and put all the things in his hands into the cart. He was leaning against the cart, playing with the horsewhip in his hand, waiting for Su Qingyu with nothing to do. Seeing him come out, his gaze swept over, stopped on his face, and the corner of his mouth curved up.
“Picked them out?”
Su Qingyu nodded, and handed that bundle over. Liang Yu took it, casually put it into the cart, then reached out to touch Su Qingyu’s face.
“Your face is so red.”
Su Qingyu lowered his head, his ears completely red.
Liang Yu tossed a money pouch into the shopkeeper’s arms, the shopkeeper nimbly settled the bill, and handed the money pouch back.
Liang Yu stuffed the money pouch into his clothes, pulled the little red faced person onto the cart. The reins shook, and the cart slowly moved forward.
Su Qingyu leaned against Liang Yu’s shoulder, holding that bundle of underclothes, his heart full and swollen. Suddenly remembering something, he raised his head, and asked softly. “Second Brother Liang, those pieces of silk… are they very expensive?”
Liang Yu lowered his head to look at him, reached out and pinched that face.
“What’s expensive about it, it’s not like we buy them every day.” He paused, then said again. “Worn against the skin, it has to be comfortable.”
Su Qingyu’s eyes grew hot, he buried his face in that warm shoulder, and didn’t speak.
Up ahead there was a roast chicken shop, the aroma drifting far. Liang Yu stopped the cart, went in and bought one, wrapped it in lotus leaf, and had Su Qingyu hold it.
“Eat it when we get back.”
Su Qingyu nodded, holding that package of roast chicken, his heart warm and sunny.
Finally they went into a medicine shop. Liang Yu said a few words to the shopkeeper, and the shopkeeper took out a small porcelain bottle from the inner room and handed it to Liang Yu. Liang Yu looked at it, asked for several more bottles, and put them all into his clothes.
Su Qingyu didn’t clearly see what that was, and didn’t have the nerve to ask.
Coming out of the shop, the sun had already tilted west, and the two of them walked toward the cart.
Su Qingyu walked beside Liang Yu, holding those things in his arms, his heart full and swollen. Occasionally he raised his head, glanced at that profile, then lowered his head, the corners of his lips raised high.
Getting on the cart, Liang Yu put the things away, and stuffed the hand warmer into Su Qingyu’s hands again. The cart slowly started moving, the wheels rolling over the remaining snow on the road, creaking.
Su Qingyu held the hand warmer, leaning against Liang Yu’s shoulder, and suddenly said softly. “Second Brother Liang, thank you.”
Liang Yu lowered his head and kissed him.
“What are you thanking me for.”
Su Qingyu’s face reddened, but he didn’t dodge, leaning even closer.
The cart slowly moved forward, the distant town growing farther and farther away. The clouds at the horizon were dyed orange red by the setting sun, very beautiful.
Su Qingyu leaned against Liang Yu’s shoulder, holding the small hand warmer in his arms. The cart swayed and swayed, swaying until one grew drowsy, eyelids growing heavier and heavier, and without knowing it he fell asleep.
Liang Yu lowered his head, looking at that sleeping face.
The cheeks were pink, the eyelashes long and thick, casting a small shadow under the eyes. That mole at the corner of the eye was red, the skin very white, the lips slightly open, showing a bit of shell like teeth, breathing lightly.
The sleeping appearance was very well behaved.
Liang Yu looked for a good while, one arm wrapping around Su Qingyu, letting him lean more comfortably. Su Qingyu moved, rubbed against his chest, found a good position, and continued sleeping.
The cart went a bit further, and suddenly jolted. Su Qingyu was jolted awake, opened his eyes in a daze, looked around, then closed his eyes again, shrinking into Liang Yu’s chest.
“Arrived?”
“No.” Liang Yu lowered his head and kissed him. “Still early, sleep a bit more.”
Su Qingyu gave an “mm,” and fell asleep again.
Liang Yu held that soft and fluffy body, his heart also soft and fluffy. He remembered today in town, that little person seeing everything as fresh, wanting to eat everything, but too embarrassed to say, only secretly glancing.
When he bought things for him, taking them over, his eyes would look at him bright and sparkling, like an easily satisfied kitten.
Eating the wontons, he burned his mouth, but couldn’t bear to spit it out, hissing and swallowing it down, his eyes welling with water. Buying the candied hawthorn, sugar crumbs stuck at the corner of his mouth, he didn’t know it himself, licked and licked, like a kitten stealing food.
And in the fabric shop, seeing those silks and satins, his eyes brightened, then dimmed, probably thinking they were too expensive.
Liang Yu thought and thought, and the corner of his mouth curved up.
This little man, the more he looked the more pleasing to the eye.
The cart went a bit further, Su Qingyu woke again, rubbed his eyes, sat up straight, looked at Liang Yu, and said somewhat embarrassedly. “Second Brother Liang, I fell asleep.”
“Mm.” Liang Yu reached out and pulled him back into his arms, continuing to drive the cart. “Good thing you woke up, we’re almost there.”
Su Qingyu looked out of the cart, indeed they were almost there, he could already see the old locust tree at the village entrance. Suddenly remembering something, he lowered his head to look at the bundle in his arms, then looked at the pile of things in the cart, and some indescribable feeling welled up in his heart.
“Second Brother Liang,” Su Qingyu raised his head, looking at Liang Yu, “how much silver did we spend today?”
Liang Yu raised an eyebrow, and didn’t answer.
Su Qingyu lowered his eyes, and said softly. “Too much, I…”
Before he finished speaking, his chin was pinched, his face forced to lift up. Liang Yu looked at those eyes, lowered his head and kissed those two lips.
He only let go after kissing them swollen, then licked them. “My silver, I spend it however I want. If I buy for you, you take it, don’t think so much. Go back and rest well, in a couple of days I’ll come get you again.”
Su Qingyu nodded, holding back his tears.
The cart entered the village, and slowly moved forward. Passing by that small courtyard of the Su family, Liang Yu reined in the horse, jumped down, and lifted Su Qingyu down.
Su Qingyu held a pile of things in his arms, his heart both sour and warm.
Liang Yu touched Su Qingyu’s head. “Go in.”
Su Qingyu nodded, but stood there without moving. He stood on tiptoe and kissed Liang Yu, looked at Liang Yu and said. “Second Brother Liang, drive slowly on the road.”
Liang Yu froze for a moment, looking at that serious little face, reached out and rubbed Su Qingyu’s cheek flesh.
“Got it.”
He turned and jumped onto the cart, the reins shook, and the cart slowly moved forward.
Su Qingyu stood at the doorway, watching that cart go farther and farther, until it turned the corner and disappeared from sight, then he pushed open the courtyard gate.
He returned to his room and put the things away one by one.
Outside the sky slowly darkened.
In the distance came a few barks from dogs, and soon it was quiet again.
