The Second Young Master’s Obedient Husband : Chapter 43
They had made such a racket last night that Su Qingyu had passed out before it was even over.
The next day when Su Qingyu woke up, it was rare that Liang Yu was still asleep too, his thick arms wrapped tight around Su Qingyu’s waist, breathing steadily in the soft bedding.
Su Qingyu slowly blinked himself awake, feeling the breath by his ear, his heart going soft. He propped himself up on Liang Yu’s chest muscles, tilting his little face up to observe the man. With his eyes closed, the man’s face was still handsome, his brows and eyes much gentler.
Su Qingyu carefully shifted his body, stretched out one hand to trace the man’s deep brows and eyes, and looking and looking, couldn’t help leaning in to steal a kiss. He lowered his head and pressed his lips in a soft smile, not even noticing that Liang Yu had opened his eyes.
Liang Yu reached out and pinched Su Qingyu’s cheek, his morning voice hoarse and sexy. “What are you grinning at? Hm?”
Su Qingyu’s eyes went round hearing Liang Yu’s voice, then he buried his face in Liang Yu’s chest, his ears red, and went still.
Liang Yu looked at the person curled up like a little turtle in his arms, laughed hoarsely, put his hand over Su Qingyu’s hair and rubbed it, and didn’t tease him anymore.
After a while, Su Qingyu got over his embarrassment and wasn’t so shy anymore. He lay quietly in Liang Yu’s arms, then suddenly remembered something and said, “I’ve been on the mountain for several days now. Mother must be worried.”
Liang Yu pinched his earlobe without speaking, let go of the arm holding him, and threw back the quilt to get out of bed. He walked to the window, pushed it open, and blew a whistle outside.
Sharp and crisp, it carried far through the forest.
Su Qingyu was startled, sat up wrapped in the quilt, and looked at him.
Sunlight came through the window, shining on that bare back. The broad back still had scratch marks from last night, bright and vivid against the dark skin. The lean waist was narrow; Su Qingyu had deeply felt on more than one night just how powerful it was. The legs were long and strong, handsome and wild.
After a while, a flapping sound came from outside.
A large bird landed on the windowsill, grey feathers, sharp claws, a pair of eyes bright in the sunlight, but behaving itself, tucking its wings and standing on the window ledge.
Liang Yu walked back to the table, pulled out a small slip of paper from a drawer, took out a charcoal pencil and wrote a few words on it. He rolled it up and stuffed it into the small bamboo tube tied to the bird’s leg, smoothed the bird’s feathers, and let the bird fly off. The bird spread its wings and flew into the sky, its figure quickly disappearing beyond the horizon. Su Qingyu watched Liang Yu’s movements, his eyes wide open.
Liang Yu turned back and saw him like that, the corner of his lips curving up. “A trained golden eagle, hatched from an egg I got by chance. Usually I let it fly free in the forest to hunt on its own. It’s a very good partner, and fast at delivering letters too.”
Su Qingyu nodded, still looking out the window curiously, as if searching for the bird’s shadow.
Liang Yu walked over and sat on the edge of the bed, reached out and touched his face, pulling his attention back to himself.
“Does your mother know how to read?”
Su Qingyu pulled back his gaze and nodded. “She does. Before… our family taught me, and taught Mother too.”
Liang Yu made a soft sound. “That’ll do. I’ll tell her you’re with me, that nothing’s wrong, and I’ll send you back tomorrow.”
Su Qingyu bit his lip, reached out and hugged Liang Yu’s waist, buried his face in his chest and nuzzled.
Liang Yu lowered his head and kissed his temple. “I’m going to rinse off. You tidy up the bed.”
With that, he took a pair of pants from beside the bed, put them on, and went out the door, his movements natural, not treating Su Qingyu like an outsider at all.
Su Qingyu hadn’t even reacted before he had seen everything, his face burning red again without any fight.
Liang Yu closed the door and walked into the courtyard, drew a bucket of water from the vat, and poured it over his head from top to bottom. It was cold, but refreshing, good for cooling down.
Su Qingyu lay on the bed listening to the water sounds from the courtyard. After a while he slowly sat up, dressed, and got out of bed.
He got down from the bed, turned and looked at the mess on the bed, his eyelashes trembling. The mat was wet in a large patch, mixed with other stains, all wrinkled. The quilt was soiled too, with marks in several places. Su Qingyu’s face red, he bent down and pulled off the mat and bedsheet, then pulled out a clean bedsheet from the cabinet and spread it out, tucked in the four corners, changed the quilt cover, and picked up the dirty clothes to put in the basket in the corner.
When he was done tidying the room, the water sounds in the courtyard hadn’t stopped. Su Qingyu stood in the room not daring to go out, sat on the edge of the bed listening to the water sounds in a daze.
The water sounds in the courtyard stopped. Before long Liang Yu pushed open the door and came in, bare chested, his hair wet, water droplets running down his back. Only a cloth was wrapped around his waist, showing two strong powerful legs.
Su Qingyu took one look and quickly lowered his eyes, the roots of his ears burning red.
“Tidied up?”
Su Qingyu nodded, eyes lowered, fingers constantly twisting his clothes.
Liang Yu reached out and pulled him into his arms, kissed him, and said, “The water’s heated. Go wash in the washroom.”
Su Qingyu answered softly, got up and walked toward the door, head lowered, legs moving very fast. Liang Yu laughed hard watching him from behind.
Su Qingyu went into the washroom and closed the door. Only when he couldn’t hear Liang Yu’s laughter did he let out a breath.
Embarrassing himself again… The more Su Qingyu thought about it, the more discouraged he got. He buried his face in his palms and made a whimpering sound, silently cursing himself for being so useless.
Liang Yu laughed until his stomach hurt. When he got over it, he dressed, dried his hair halfway, and went out of the bedroom. He walked to the washroom door and listened for a while. Normal water sounds, nothing wrong. He nodded and went to the kitchen to cook.
After his bath, Su Qingyu was no longer discouraged and was back to his lively self. He wrung out his hair and dumped the dirty water. He walked to the kitchen doorway, leaned against the doorframe and poked his head out to watch Liang Yu busy at work. After watching for a while, he went back to the room, gathered the dirty clothes, carried out a small stool, and sat in the courtyard washing clothes.
When the clothes were washed, Liang Yu brought out the food and helped hang the clothes to dry. After eating, the two of them sat together in the courtyard drying their hair in the sun.
They had just sat down when a flapping sound came from outside. That golden eagle had returned.
Liang Yu stood up and went into the room. The golden eagle landed on the windowsill, tilting its head to look at him. Liang Yu took the bamboo tube from its leg, poured out the paper roll inside, and vaguely saw something placed under the windowsill.
Liang Yu leaned out and picked it up. It was a small basket, woven finely, with a few fresh peaches inside, very good quality, bright red with leaves still attached.
Liang Yu was startled, put the basket on the table. He unrolled the paper: “Understood. Peaches just picked.”
Liang Yu turned back to look at Su Qingyu and handed him the peaches.
The ripe peaches gave off a sweet fragrance, very tempting. Su Qingyu took the peaches, but his eyes went red. They were from the peach tree in their own courtyard, bearing fruit for the first time this year, not many of them. His mother hadn’t been willing to eat a single one, and had sent them all.
Su Qingyu’s tears fell, landing on the peaches like morning dew drops, but tasting bitter and salty.
Liang Yu reached up and wiped the tears from his face, held Su Qingyu, and patted his back lightly.
“What are you crying for?”
Su Qingyu shook his head, picked up a peach and rubbed it on his sleeve, then held it to Liang Yu’s mouth.
Liang Yu lowered his head and took a bite. The peach was very sweet, the juice abundant, the peach flesh melting in his mouth. It was a good peach.
Su Qingyu took a bite from where he had bitten. The peach was too sweet, sweet enough to make one’s heart ache.
After eating the peaches, Liang Yu held Su Qingyu sitting in the courtyard, scooped water and carefully washed the peach juice from Su Qingyu’s hands, his voice very gentle.
“Your mother’s handwriting?” Liang Yu asked.
Su Qingyu nodded. “Mother taught me to write before.”
Liang Yu made a soft sound and didn’t ask more. Su Qingyu looked up at him, opened his mouth but no sound came out.
Liang Yu looked down at him, not rushing, kissed him on the forehead, and waited silently.
Su Qingyu bit his lip, buried his face back in his chest, his voice muffled. “Brother Liang… is truly good.”
Liang Yu was startled. After quite a while he laughed softly, dried the water droplets on his hands, rubbed the head of the person in his arms, and held him tighter.
