The Second Young Master’s Obedient Husband : Chapter 60

The first snowfall came quietly. Once it snowed, the mountain paths were hard to walk, so Liang Yu no longer took Su Qingyu up the mountain. They stayed together in their small courtyard to spend the winter.

In the morning, Su Qingyu pushed open the window. Outside was already a vast expanse of white.

Tuantuan and Yuanyuan were frolicking in the snow, running and jumping, whining with excitement, their little noses pushing through the snow, tails wagging happily. The snow was covered with their paw prints, looking completely messy.

Su Qingyu leaned against the window, resting his chin on his hand, and watched for a good while. A smile unconsciously formed on his lips.

Cold wind blew in with a whoosh. Su Qingyu closed the window, put on his clothes, and used the warm water Liang Yu had left behind. After washing up, he pushed open the door. The cold air hit him in the face, making Su Qingyu shrink his neck involuntarily.

The two puppies heard the noise and ran over excitedly. Their thick fur shook with each step, clinging to him and circling around him, their bodies covered in snow from playing.

Su Qingyu poured out the dirty water, squatted down, and patted the snow off them. The two little things kept nuzzling into his arms, their breath warm and hot. Su Qingyu hugged the two puppies and no longer felt cold.

Sounds came from the kitchen. Liang Yu was lighting the fire and cooking.

Su Qingyu finally managed to break free from the clingy puppies and walked into the kitchen. Liang Yu was standing in front of the stove cooking porridge, a mixed grain porridge made of beans and millet. The smell of the grains was so fragrant it made one’s mouth water, steaming warmly.

The fire in the stove was burning bright, and the room didn’t feel cold. Su Qingyu closed the door and sneaked toward Liang Yu like a cat. He hugged Liang Yu’s waist from behind, trying to startle him.

Liang Yu had known since Su Qingyu came in. Not only was he not startled, but he also pinched his waist, pulled him to the front, and kissed him thoroughly. Su Qingyu was kissed into submission and stopped making trouble. He obediently leaned against Liang Yu’s chest and kept him company while making breakfast.

After breakfast, the heavy snow still hadn’t stopped, and the ground was already covered with a thick layer of snow. The heavy snow covered all traces, and the world between heaven and earth was a sheet of white.

Su Qingyu was overjoyed looking at the snow and pulled Liang Yu to build a snowman in the courtyard.

After the two puppies finished their own food, they came over energetically, insisting on following at their feet. Shanfeng was too lazy to join the puppies in their antics and lay comfortably in his warm doghouse, resting his chin on his front paws, lazily wagging his tail as he watched them make a fuss.

The two puppies were curious and loved joining in the fun. They circled around the people, constantly making trouble. One moment they knocked off the snowman’s nose, the next they dug a hole in the snowman’s body.

Su Qingyu was so annoyed that he chased after them directly. The puppies were usually clingy but also knew how to read people’s expressions. They ran faster than each other, and somehow they started having fun while running, grinning and running even faster, leaving strings of paw prints on the snow.

Liang Yu stood nearby watching them make a fuss. Not only did he not go up to help, but he also laughed without any conscience.

After much effort, they finally finished building the snowman. Su Qingyu went back to the kitchen to get a carrot for the nose (the previous one had already been destroyed by the two little rascals) and found two pieces of charcoal for the eyes.

Even though they put in a lot of effort, the snowman was still crooked and looked very ugly. But Su Qingyu was already very satisfied. At least it looked somewhat human. The two little troublemakers who had been causing chaos the whole time came over to sniff and even sneezed from the cold of the snow.

Su Qingyu laughed so hard he bent over, leaning against Liang Yu to catch his breath.

Liang Yu looked down at him, reached out to brush the snow from his hair, and kissed his face.

“Let’s go inside. It’s cold out here.”

Su Qingyu nodded. The two of them held hands and walked toward the house. The two puppies ran inside after them, and Shanfeng followed too, even closing the door behind him. The three of them lay down by the charcoal brazier to warm themselves, and before long their eyes were half closed, looking very comfortable.

The room was warm and cozy, the charcoal fire burning bright. Su Qingyu sat on the heated brick bed, tucked himself under the small quilt, and took out his embroidery to work on. Liang Yu sat beside him, casually flipping through an old book, occasionally looking up at him. When he was young, Liang Yu had learned characters from his elder brother. He could recognize most characters, but he truly had no talent for it. All those classical phrases made his head spin the moment he heard them, and he simply couldn’t learn them. Later, his elder brother gave up, thinking it was enough that he could recognize characters.

Entering the twelfth lunar month, while the snow wasn’t too heavy yet, the two of them went to town to sell all the tanned hides and embroidery. The mountain goods were also all dealt with. After being busy the whole year, they could finally rest.

It was Su Qingyu’s first winter at his in laws’ home. Although the Liang family members were all very kind, Su Qingyu still felt a bit nervous inside.

During the day when there was nothing to do, Su Qingyu helped Mother Liang cook and learned from his elder sister in law how to make New Year foods. Steaming buns, frying meatballs, making dumplings, curing pork… he could help with everything. Mother Liang watched him bustling about in the kitchen and grew to like him more and more. She praised her second son’s husband to everyone she met.

When Su Qingyu heard this, although he still blushed, he no longer hid away. He could even smile and respond along with Mother Liang.

When the village wives and husbands saw him, they all said the Su family young man seemed like a changed person. Before, he always kept his head down when meeting people and didn’t dare say much. Now he was open and natural, looking incredibly pretty, and would even take the initiative to greet people. Sometimes he could chat for a few sentences.

The shyness between his brows and eyes had lessened, replaced by a bit more openness and generosity. But that soft nature was still there. When he smiled, his eyes curved, and with his good looks and good nature, people couldn’t help but like him.

In the evening, the two of them sat around the fire brazier to warm themselves. Liang Yu told him stories about hunting, while he held his needle and thread making shoes and clothes for Liang Yu. At night they always slept cuddled together. Outside the wind was bitterly cold, but inside the room was warm.

Since the two of them didn’t need to go into the mountains, they spent more time walking around the village. The villagers gradually came to see how well Liang Yu treated Su Qingyu, making people envious beyond measure.

It was common to see Liang Yu accompanying Su Qingyu out for strolls. The three dogs had run wild in the mountains and made a terrible fuss when confined to the small courtyard. The couple had to take the dogs out to let them run free from time to time, though they only wandered around the foot of the mountain. Occasionally they would dig up some wild vegetables to take back and taste something fresh. They played and laughed, living incredibly happily.

The wives and husbands doing laundry by the well saw them. After they walked far away, they chattered among themselves.

“Second Master Liang really dotes on him. That look in his eyes, tsk tsk.”

“Isn’t that right? I’ve been married into this village for so many years, and I’ve never seen anyone so devoted.”

“The young man himself is impressive too. Good looks, good temper, and so capable. His embroidery is famous in town.”

“If you ask me, it’s his good fortune. He came here as a refugee, and now he lives in a big tile roofed house, dresses well too. You can tell his clothes are good fabric at a glance, not a single patch, his complexion is rosy beyond belief, and he has a husband who dotes on him so.”

“That’s not something you can envy.”

Su Qingyu’s ears twitched. The wind carried the voices from the well, and hearing them made Su Qingyu’s face red and his heart sweet.

That evening when they returned home, Liang Yu was sitting in the room flipping through a leisure book. Su Qingyu walked over and sat on his lap, wrapped his arms around his neck, and looked up at him with his little face.

Looking at a beauty under the lamplight, the more you look, the more your heart moves. Liang Yu couldn’t read his book anymore and stared fixedly at the person in his arms, his Adam’s apple moving.

Su Qingyu wrapped his arms around Liang Yu’s neck, leaned in, and kissed him, smiling incredibly sweetly.

Liang Yu pinched his face and asked with a smile, “What are you smiling about?”

Su Qingyu shook his head, leaned against his chest, and rubbed against him. “I’m just happy.”

Liang Yu lowered his head and kissed the top of his head. His arms were full of warm fragrance and softness, and his head gradually grew dizzy. Not the annoying kind from reading, but a wonderful feeling in his heart.
