The Second Young Master’s Obedient Husband : Chapter 64
The next morning, Liang Yu woke up early but did not get up. He lay on his side, gazing down at the person in his arms.
Su Qingyu was still sleeping soundly, wearing only a thin undergarment. The quilt had slipped down a little with his movements, revealing a snow white, rounded shoulder covered with scattered red marks, all left from the night before.
His delicate little face was flushed from sleep, his eyelashes long and thick, casting faint shadows beneath his eyes. His rosy lips were slightly parted, looking both adorable and pitiful.
Liang Yu watched for a while, then lowered his head to take a bit of flesh from his cheek between his lips, his teeth grazing gently. No matter how affectionate he was, it never felt like enough.
Su Qingyu’s body shifted. He mumbled something indistinct and curled further into Liang Yu’s embrace. His eyelashes fluttered but he did not wake, and in no time he had fallen back asleep.
The person in his arms was warm and fragrant all over, his waist so slender that it could be easily held with one hand. The flesh at the base of his thighs was plump and soft, hidden beneath the quilt, unseen but easily imagined.
Liang Yu’s breathing grew heavier.
His hand slipped beneath the quilt to grasp that slender waist, all slippery and warm and soft in his palm, the white tender flesh spilling out between his fingers, unspeakably satisfying.
Su Qingyu shifted and opened his eyes, his mind hazy and confused. He stared at Liang Yu blankly for a good while before coming back to himself, his face flushing red once more.
Liang Yu kissed the top of his head. “Awake?”
Su Qingyu gave a soft hum.
Liang Yu’s hand was still kneading, moving from his waist upward, slowly rubbing through the thin undergarment. Su Qingyu’s body trembled lightly in Liang Yu’s palm, beyond his control.
Su Qingyu’s face grew even redder. He said softly, “Husband…”
Liang Yu lowered his head and sealed his lips with a kiss.
Su Qingyu tried to say something more, but was cut off again.
…
After the fifteenth day of the first lunar month passed, the New Year was officially over.
Life had to go on as usual, but before heading up the mountain, Su Qingyu could not stop worrying about his mother’s health.
Su’s mother had been eating well and living comfortably this past year. She had not fallen ill all winter, and color had returned to her face. She looked much stronger than in previous years.
But Su Qingyu still could not set his mind at ease.
That evening, leaning against Liang Yu’s chest, he discussed it with him: “Husband, I want to take Mother to town to have a doctor feel her pulse.”
Liang Yu nodded. “That is the right thing to do. I will go with you.”
The next day, Su Qingyu went to find Su’s mother and said, “Mother, let us go to town and have a doctor feel your pulse. Your health was not very good last year. It would be good to have a doctor take a look.”
Su’s mother said, “There is no need to go to all that trouble. My health is fine.”
Su Qingyu would not give in. He took her hand, and after a moment his eyes slowly turned red, looking so pitiful that he said, “Mother, let me have peace of mind.” Su’s mother looked at her son’s poor little appearance and could never refuse him. She sighed and nodded.
Su Qingyu broke into a brilliant smile. Where was there any redness in his eyes? His sly little look made others unable to help smiling along with him.
Liang Yu had already hitched up the ox cart. Leaning against the doorframe with the ox whip in hand, he had watched the whole good show. When Su Qingyu walked over, he reached out and pinched Su Qingyu’s face, earning a glare from Su Qingyu before he happily drove the cart with the two of them to town.
When they arrived in town, they found that old established medicine shop. The attending doctor was an elderly gentleman with a white beard, looking kind and approachable.
The old doctor felt Su’s mother’s pulse, asked about her diet and daily routine, and looked at her tongue. In the end, he stroked his beard and nodded.
“Her foundation is a bit weak, but she has been nourished well these past few years. There is nothing serious now. Drink a bowl of tonic medicine each month, and after another year or so of care, her body will be solid.”
Su’s mother let out a breath of relief. Su Qingyu excitedly grabbed Liang Yu’s sleeve and shook it, thanking the doctor repeatedly.
Su’s mother stroked Su Qingyu’s head, her face showing a relieved smile. “I told you it was nothing, but you insisted on coming.”
Su Qingyu’s eyes curved into crescents as he leaned against her shoulder with a bright smile.
Just as Su Qingyu was about to lead Su’s mother away, Liang Yu suddenly spoke up: “Have Qingyu examined as well.”
Su Qingyu was startled and looked up at him. Liang Yu said nothing, only nudged Su Qingyu’s shoulder to signal him to go over. Though puzzled, Su Qingyu obediently went.
The doctor beckoned. “Come, sit down.”
Su Qingyu sat and extended his wrist.
The doctor felt Su Qingyu’s pulse, carefully sensing the pulse pattern. His brows furrowed, and he felt again for a while longer. He stroked his beard, looked at Su Qingyu, then at Liang Yu, and only after a moment did he ask, “This young man, did you suffer hardships in your early years?”
Su Qingyu was taken aback and nodded.
The doctor gave a soft hum. “His foundation is severely weak, weakened at the root. He has recovered considerably over these years, so it is clear that care has been taken. However…”
The doctor’s words trailed off. He glanced at Liang Yu, hesitant to continue.
Liang Yu stood nearby, his face expressionless, and said to the doctor, “Speak plainly.”
The old doctor nodded, stroking his beard as he carefully chose his words: “His foundation is too severely weakened. If he wishes to… he will still need to be slowly nourished. Though he has recovered now, his foundation remains somewhat weak. Take good care of him for a few years, and perhaps… then there may be some possibility.”
The doctor spoke in veiled terms, but everyone present understood what he meant.
Su Qingyu’s face paled. He lowered his head, his fingers twisting and tugging at the hem of his clothes, his lips pressed tightly together, saying nothing.
The old doctor looked at him and offered a word of comfort: “There is no need to worry. You are still young. Take good care of yourself, and after three to five years, it may not be impossible.”
Su Qingyu nodded, his voice taking on a slight hoarseness. “Thank you, doctor.”
Liang Yu nodded, asked a few more questions in detail, had the medicine prepared, paid the consultation fee, and carried the bundles of medicine for both of them as he led them out of the clinic.
Liang Yu helped him into the cart to sit with Su’s mother. Su’s mother wanted to say something, but seeing Liang Yu’s expression, she swallowed her words.
Liang Yu stroked his head, tucked the medicine bundle into his arms, then went to sit at the front of the cart, took up the ox whip, and drove the cart. It slowly began to move, heading in the direction of home.
All along the way, Su Qingyu held the medicine bundle and sat leaning against his mother, his head lowered and silent. Su’s mother held him close, let out a soft sigh, and stroked Su Qingyu’s back again and again, comforting her little son.
When they reached the village entrance, Liang Yu first dropped Su’s mother off at home. Su’s mother got down from the cart, took her son’s hand, and was about to say something when Su Qingyu shook his head, forced a slight curve to his eyes, and said, “Mother, I am fine.”
Su’s mother sighed again. In the end she only patted his hand and said, “The doctor said, if you take good care of yourself there will be no problem…”
Su Qingyu nodded. Su’s mother then looked at Liang Yu, about to speak, but Liang Yu cut her off and said, “Mother, do not worry. I know what to do.”
Su’s mother nodded, pushed open the door, and went inside.
